8.1 is BBC. Generally not desirable beacause it is not compatible with most aftermarket BBC parts. The LS will make more power cheaply. Will a BBC fit in a 93-02 Camaro?

I'm not an expert by any means but the only thing I've ever come across dealing with 8.1s is people using the fuel injectors since they are apparently a bit higher flow. Other than that they don't seem to be that commonly used. It's hard to argue with the cheap and plentiful supply of ls parts.

Keep the 6.0 ls motor. the 8.1 is big, heavy, and dosnt put out the power an ls motor could mod for mod. as said before its just a newer gen BBC that doesnt have any real after market support.

That said, when i worked at a shop, i put a whipple on a 05 Chevy crew cab 4x4 with the 8.1 it defently woke it up, but not quite what we where expecting. IMO you'd be better off with the lt1 than that 8.1. but you have the 6.0 ls which is even better

That ^ heavier, maybe a bit torquier (stock) than the lt1, but the 6.0 is the way to go. Modability all over, compact, etc.

only down side is you cant say SGOTTA BIG BLOCK!! but chicks dont dig that anymore anyway.

The 8.1 is a tall deck 496 cubes. It will fit in a 3rd gen, As for aftermarket They dont make **** for it. Gm changed all kind of stuff on it, So most of the mark5 stuff wont interchange. They put them in c4500s and up( box trucks and stuff like that) its a boat anchor.I work on ashplund trucks(tree company) and they are dogs empty They have a hard time pulling a hill in 3rd gear lol. Stick with the 6.0 it will alot easier

Dude dont be discouraged, I've had an 8.1 sitting in a corner for almost 3yrs and I just started tearing a it down for my uncles 70' chevelle. Its getting bored .120" over(524ci), ported&polished intake, heads with stiffer springs and larger valves, forged rods and pistons, and a custom cam. The main problem is that the General restricted it, a good tune will wake the stock beast up, you can get a custom grind cam from Comp or Elgin cams and Dart has stepped up to the plate recently with a set of aftermarket heads. http://www.dartheads.com/products/cy...nder-head.html

You get the same coil on plug ignition as the LSx platforms, you can use traditional bbc roller rockers and studs, an ls1 dbc tb will bolt right up also. And check out this quote, here's where my uncle and I got our motivation from.
By the way - I searched the Chevelle forums and found a backtrack to the NastyZ28 forums...

There appears to be some interest in these things - but most guys bail when it comes to needing to get the DBW working...which is no big deal at all.

This post here was very encouraging:

We have one in Brothers truck. 2500 HD, he dropped a bolt in the intake is shattered a piston. I pulled it and disasembeled it. Took it to Ashwoth Proformance in Fuquay NC he bored it to 524 CI to clean it up, Port and polished the heads balance and bluprinted the block ECT..... Had to stay with OEM cam no aftermarket to be found, steel crank so we left it in had it micropolished ECT... 2700 reinstaled it changed the airfilter config to get more air. then took it to a dyno tunning 400.00 later and 4 hours there 590 HP and 545 Foot lbs toqure at the back wheels . Not bad for a stock cam and stock exaust still on it. The block has good potental.

decisions, decisions. I think the 6.0 would be an easier swap and make more power cheaply, but the 8.1 is cool and has potential for huge cubes. The 8.1 is definately a lot heavier, but I'm not sure how much. I would really like to see the 8.1 swapped in because no one does it. You will have one of the biggest displacement 4th gens on the street. I say go for it.

I don't think they're fond of revving much:

http://www.lt1swap.com/8100pics.htm

With little aftermarket and no top end power, it'd just be cool that you did it, but the 6.0 would be the way to go. My two cents.

Whats the purpose of revving it high when its torque(450lbft) is peaking at 3grand?

There's not one, because it won't make any power past 3 grand. Weak sauce.

Cool

I wounder, what can you do with 700rwhp power on the poor rear wheel tire .

You really need to think of replacing the tire every month or so
