Starting to convert my FD3
I have a 93 FD3 (RX-7) that in the next couple of months will be receiving a LS1/T56 conversion. I have a couple of questions that might sound pretty newb but I am totaly unfamiler with the LS1.
1) Is the ECU the same for the auto and the manual tranny. I find a lot of LS1's for sale with the harness and ECU and they dont say if it is a auto or manual ECU. Also I noticed that there are a couple of diffrent 6 speeds out there, do they have their own ECU or are all ECUs compatiable?
2) Does any one have a diagram that shows the shape of the connectors that are need for correct operation of the motor? I would like to go thru and clean up the wire harness of all the connectors that dont need to be there, prefering to do it myself to save some cash.
3) The Vett LS1 is it worth the extra money? If I am correct the WS6,Z28 is 320 hp and the Vett is 340 hp. And will the Z28 oilpan fit on the Vett becuse from what I hear the finned oilpan won't fit into the RX-7.
Is there anyone on here that has first hand experiance with this conversion? I plan to order all my thru Hinsonsupercars here by the end of the month. I was wondering how hard it is to set this up and what kind of performance I can expect from a stock LS1/T56 with the 3.90 LSD.
These are prob just the beggining of the questions.
Thanks for any info.
2) if you want a adiagram the only way u can get it pretty much is by buying a Helms manual.
3) yes the vette produces more power and, the oil pans are interchangeable (had to do it myself). depending on the year it might be worth the money unless you plan on installing aftermarket parts then it probably wont be. the 2002+ came w/ a ls6 intake i believe.

Now crainholio said that the PCM 's are the same but the program can be fixed with a SPS reflash. What is the SPS, and how much is it to have it reflashed? I am assumeing that it is the program in the PCM that is getting rewritten. Would it just be cheaper to buy the PCM with the right SPS to begin with?

SPS stands for Service Programming System. There's a good description of it here:

Ken Kelly, author of LS1-Edit, does SPS reflashes for $50 or so...it's not worth buying your own SPS just to do your PCM. That gets you a stock configuration with the right software for your powertrain. Unless you're bringing over VATS and every single sensor in the vehicle, you'll need software tuning to disable these after the SPS reflash.
