This is goign to sound crazy, but here it goes. I use aerosol paint stripper from Lowes, with the green scotchbrite. I've used this on a bunch of cast aluminum pieces, and it always works really good. Just make sure that you wear gloves while doing it.

The purple jug of Castrol Super Clean (I think goes by other names) always works fantastic for me. Though I have to say when I got my heads hot bathed at the machine shop they got way cleaner than I could get them.

The quickest, easiest, and cheapest way to clean aluminum that i have found has been muratic acid. I cleaned all of the suspension components and brackets on my Vette using the stuff. Spray it on, wait 45 - 60 seconds and spray it off. It leaves a nice finish and gets all of the stains out.

eastwood makes an amazing aluminum paint. that looks 100% factory to me, its a little expensive but goes a long way, I should post a pic of a waterpump I did that was clean but still dirty looking. One coat and it looked like I picked the part up from the gm parts counter

Some nice looking engine pictures for sure, but no junk yard is glass beading, hand brushing, or painting a motor to make it look pretty for the pictures. They need to do something quick and easy.
The Eagle and other products are safe for the not only the aluminum but all the plastic and wiring too?
