Default Quick question ASAP please!!!! (T56 bellhousing)

Will a '05 GTO T56 bellhousing work on a LS1 Motor and LS1 T56? I was told the starter is different. Is that an easy fix? What starter would I use for the LS1 motor and the LS2 bellhousing but LS1 T56? Is it any bigger or smaller than a regular LS1 bellhousing?

GTO T56's have the starter snout in a slightly different location than all other T56's. The starter solenoid kicks out farther than other LSx starters and limits exhaust choices. If you've got a GTO, use the GTO stuff, otherwise use any other bellhousing

My LS1 motor and T56 is going into a 1990 300zx. Im just missing a bellhousing. I can get one at a good price but it comes from a '05 GTO LS2/T56.

If its something as simple as a starter then Ill grab it but otherwise I dont feel like paying $300 for a bellhousing.

Yes, just match the starter and bellhousing. Cant guarantee your exhaust will clear though

Agreed with what everyone said. GTO T56 bellhousing will not work with a LS1/truck starter. If using a GTO bellhousing, get a GTO starter. Or just get a F-body bellhousing and use any LS1/truck starter. I asked the same exact question a couple of months ago

Default Bellhousing

I picked my LS1 T56 bellhousing up new off eBay for $225 plus shipping. I guess the real question is what are the savings in the long run? If the GTO starter is more rare is it going to cost more when it comes to replacement?

Wade70ss, you're right on. GTO starters are anywhere between 250 and 300.... and you know at some point will need to be replaced. If you get the F-body bellhousing, you can get a starter from an F-body or any truck from the last 10 years. They're much cheaper, and hopefully you'll never have to replace a bellhousing.

So the question is: get a new bellhousing or get a new starter, I opted for the bellhousing because they cost about the same, but when you have to replace the starter, a GTO starter will cost more than the F-body
