Default 1966 Mustang Ls1

Well it begins! I just started tearing into my mustang. Pulling the 289 out and in goes the ls1.....bought a wrecked 98 camaro ss with a ls1 and a4! Car is going to have a yank pt4400 with prolly a mid 230 cam. If i can rev it high enough I'm going to try to spray a 100 shot. From what I researched the car only weighs 2500 lbs. So I figure 500 horses and 2500 lbs art to be fun. Yall stick around and see how it goes. I should have the 289 out of the car tomorrow.

I came within inches of an LS1 in my 66 stang. Spent many hours with a tape measuring. With the stock shock towers it's vvvveeerry tight. Allot like a 66-67 nova.

Not saying it can't be done but an aftermarket clip would make it much easier.

Hide the coil packs and fab some Ford Motorsports valve cover script and you will have the Mustang guys totally confused.

Yeah I haven't got to fit the motor yet so we will see how it goes. I'm hoping I can get it in there without cutting the towers for now but I plan on cutting them eventually and putting in a whole custom mustang 2 suspension so well see what happens for now

The front clip is cheap enough considering you get a complete kit with coil-overs and new brakes for ~ $2500. I put an R&C Motorsports kit in my Mav, took me 15 hrs to get it stripped, cut, welded, and back to rolling. The steering column mods took that long!

LS motors aren't much wider than a 351 windsor. Never had a 351 in a 64-66 mustang. If I remeber right the steering linkage is behind the crossmember. Makes the oil pan problematic for the LS.

I'm going to take Hella pics so don't worry about that! I'm not the greatest fabricator in the world but I have a free 66 stang and I only paid 1800 for the ss. I used a lot of parts off the ss for my z28 so I'm pretty much not out that much money on the whole project. So the front suspension and rear end will really only be the major money part of it.

A 351 Windsor is very tight in a '65-66 Mustang. One of my customers has one, and it was necessary to clearance the front corners of the shock towers for the stock manifolds to fit. The car is at the shop now (well, the shell is), and I'm thinking about checking clearance for a couple engines I have on hand (a 5.7 GTO engine and a 6.0 truck). If there is much interest, BRP is close by and may be interested in a developing a kit.

I'm going to try and modify the support and steering arms under the pan so hopefully it will work....
