Default Chevelle steering shaft

I have been searching for the past 30 minutes for the post where someone posted the part numbers to the joints and slip shaft for a Chevelle . The numbers posted were for a Jeep Cherokee box conversion, collapsible steering shaft, and couple to go to the stock steering column. If anyone knows the numbers or has a link please post it.

When I did my GC swap,4 yrs ago, I used the shaft that I went with the GC. Cut the coupling off at the top of the shaft and bought a universal with a 1" slip fit & 1" 48 spline to connect to the column. You end up using the lower universal that the gear came with 3/4" x 36 spline. If not use your stock shaft and get a new Rg Joint from Lee Engineering in CA. You might like that better, less road noise through a Rag Joint, Sorry I don't remember any part numbers.

I think the disk shaped joint part is available as a Lares product part no 200 from places like advance and o'reileys. I know that is what I used and there are more posts about this swap at chevelles.com.

I want to build a entirely new steering shaft from Borgeson parts. I saw a parts list on this site somewhere and am hoping someone will chime in with a link. I know Stealth71 has a list with aluminum joints, I need the stainless ones.

I can not find the one you are talking about I saw it a while back but I did come up with this from another build thread

Steering: - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Steering box 12.5:1 Ratio
- Heim joint outer tie rod ends
- Bump Steer adjusters
- Rag joint on steering shaft, Flaming River FLA-FR1728DD

I found some numbers on Stealth71's build thread:

Upper U-Joint: 1-48 x 1 DD (214352) Aluminum
Lower U-Joint for GC box: 1 x 3/4 DD x 3/4-30 (214931) Aluminum
Telescoping Shaft: 1 x 24" Extended Length (450024)

Then I looked up on Borgeson's website and came up with some more numbers:

Steel Stainless Polished Aluminum
014931 114931 124931 214931 3/4 DD x 3/4-30 (lower joint)
014352 114352 124352 214352 1-48 x 1 DD (upper joint)

450024 N/A N/A N/A 24” Extended Length Telescoping Shafting
450036 N/A N/A N/A 36” Extended Length Telescoping Shafting

I really wish I knew how to make the spacing come out right on my threads.

is this Jeep gearbox better than the ones that came in IROCs several years ago? I got one back in '90, and had lee manufacturing adjust the stops for an a-body. Is the grand cherokee better or just an easier/upgrade (ie not rebuilding the stops)?

Thx!

The GC '93-'98 boxes offer a faster steering ratio (12.7:1) making your steering more responsive. Further, the T-Bar is bigger thereby giving you a better road feel as well. Additionally, the appropriate GC box lines up with the factory frame holes, uses the same length/thread bolts to hold box on etc. Supposedly, makes the driving experience all the better and safer.
