Mine is in automotive primer right now. All sanded and will be base coat/clear coat.
I have read that it's been done many times. The intake on these engines doesn't seem to get crazy hot, so I would think it would hold up pretty well.

I haven't painted mine yet but I saved this pic from another site so I could remember what they used to paint this intake. Hope it helps.

My dad owns a body shop and I've worked there since I was a kid and I can tell you base/clear will actually hold up to very high temps. We've even painted stoves etc with it where some hot pans have touched it with no problems. Its important to use a good quality Sealer first and we use PPG paint for the base/clear and sealer as well.

I've painted engines with base/clear no problem. Just make sure you prep it well and use sealer first.

It will not be a problem! prep it with a red scotch brite pad and warm water and dish soap. Wash it off with water then let it sit in the sun and use rubbing alcohol on it and wipe it dry. If you want to save money you can get a spray can of SEM flexiable plastic primer. I use ppg at my shop and if are going to seal it or use ppg primer over the plastic you will have to buy a few products which are not cheap.
