Have you looked at the Hummer pan? Looks like you've still got the truck pan on. I think you can get another 3/4" to 1" at the crossmember with the hummer pan, and it's not quite as deep. I don't remember...is it LH8 pan in technical terms? Either way, it's the GMPP muscle car swap pan. Scoggin Dickey has it for about $150 complete with pickup, scraper, gasket, etc.

Shouldn't break much in the Dana 30, honestly. Lots of V8 guys running them. If you get the later G90 diff in your stock housing, there's a free mod (grind off the counterweight) to provide lockup at any speed (not limited to the stock 25mph.) Those things are next to free...the gears are fairly large and thick and the '87 got the bigger pinion/bearing (1031 diff) so I don't think I'd break it but I don't know how you drive.

Played around with a buddy's JW bellhousing and my TH400, flipped the manifolds, and checked the notched crossmember for clearance:

About 3" you end up with a 31 spline LSD disc brake rear end with your choice of 373 or 410 gears. I did one for a buddies 55 2door post with a lm7 in it. Came out good.
I did this to my '77 244. It's got an LT1/T56 combo and the Explorer 8.8 is a good, cheap way to have a tough rear. Looking good!

Yeah, scratch my comment about the Dana 30 - didn't see that you're hoping to get this car into the 10's!!! Looks like a good build! More $$$ than I'm hoping to spend, but I'm just doing a stock L33 daily driver.

Hey, all of you guys are running custom crossmembers. Has anyone considered just lowering the stock one with spacers and relocating the stock control arm hole and steering brackets upward the same amount?

Keep posting...it's making me work on mine!

replaced the bolts with grade 10.9 bolts. we'll see how long that lasts
The same thing happened to me on the same bolt and same side while i was breaking loose the other manifold bolts. Then I too broke the tip of an easy off trying to get it out. Then while trying to grind the easy out tip out when it would get smaller it would just force its sell deeper because I would have to put so much pressure on it in order for it to grind away. I don't know what to really do at this point. probably going to have to pull the head off and use a drill press.

I would add the center top hole on your bellhousing.

Hey, on the pick up for the A1000, have you seen the article Hotrod did on the stealth sump mounted one? It's been in the front of my mind for a bit. My 242 sits so low, had it towed without me around and the guy used the sling, now i'm only gettin up to 11 gallons outta teh tank. lol. Plus, it'll keep the pump quiet. super secret like.

@ 55superbeetle - badass crossmember and mounts! My fab skills are not there yet. From my measurements and mockups, the MAST motorsports oil pan will let me keep stock xmem with little to no mods. I'll need my mounts to come down off the block just about like yours.

sweet swaps, fellas. I hope mine is 1/2 as nice.
