You will either have to use the QMI bellhousing or change the bearing retainer snout on the transmission. Without a snout there is no way to run any kind of throwout bearing on the trans. Also remember that the 5.5" clutch requires a radius face bearing, not a flat face. Just call Jeff at Quarter Master, he will know what to do.

i finaly got my parts and had them installed on the engine !!!

clutch and auto flex plate :

G-force mounted to the engine

we had trouble with the clutch/bearing clearence on my set-up ... the clutch was staying pressed in and the were no shim used on the bearing yet !!!

so we made a spacer to space the clutch from the bearing and used the shim provided in the clutch kit to put it to spec !!! !

Do you need F body or Corvette accessories brackets?

Here's an ebay link, this will be your best bet for finding whichever you need quickly and easily, I think.

Did you double check to make sure that the bearing retainer is still indexing on the bellhousing? If it isn't then your transmission may not be properly aligned with the engine, which will be a disaster. The multi disk clutches are very sensitive to transmission alignment. If the input shaft is not perfectly inline with the crank the clutch may not even release.

In fact, what bearing are you using? I just looked at the pictures of the transmission on page one and your trans doesn't have a snout on the bearing retainer. It's set up for a bearing that bolts to the inside of the bellhousing. Did you change the bearing retainer?

Right. The Quarter Master and similar racing clutches use a flat diaphragm spring that requires the use of a raised lip on the bearing surface, as compared to a flat bearing that is used on large diameter, stock type clutches. Quarter Master has been making that bearing for a long time and its a good design.

So does the new bearing retainer still index the transmission inside the bellhousing with the spacer?

Does the tip of the input shaft still engage the pilot bearing enough?

What kind of air gap did you set-up between the clutch finger and the throw out bearing?

I am not being a dick, just trying to make sure you got all your bases covered. You have a bunch of fancy, expensive equipment there and it would be a shame to mess it all up.

So i would be better just to buy a new spacer that goes in between the bellhousing and engine ! Use longer bolts and dowelpins !!! And have the retainer centering the bellhousing correctly !!! I dont know if my engine builder thouhg about that!

Ideally you should not use any spacers. I would contact Quarter Master to see if they have a shallower button flywheel. I bet they do. Once the clutch assembly is mounted closer to the engine block you can use spacers between the bearing retainer and TOB to get the right airgap, which should be about .100".

Also keep in mind that this is not a street clutch. It is an "on/off" switch. Any excessive heat will warp the floater plates and will render the whole thing useless.

Is the transmission bolted directly to the crossmember without a rubber or poly mount?
