Speaking of budget I agree it's very important. There are also the unforeseen and the "OMG!! I broke it", here is mine so far.
Engine, Ecu and wiring $1300
Transmission and converter $1200
Racetronix 255 Fuel pump kit $120
Speehound motor mounts $100
Advanced Adapters 4L60E to 700R4 tail shaft adapter $214
A/C compressor high mount adapter $150
Corvette power steering pump, bracket and pulley $140
Corvettte alternator $100
Powerbond balancer $145
98 Corvette Batwing oil pan and C5 manifolds $50
Oil pan gasket $50
Starter from fleabay $56
Balancer bolt $14 gm
That is $3639 total cost so far.
So far I have made $2705 to offset the cost from sales of my old stuff. I still have a few parts lying around.
I still need a few things.
I may miss some but here is a list of the top of my head.
TB cable
Tuning software
Two O2 sensors
wirring and terminals
IAC sensor
Transmission cooler
Fuel lines and fittings
I might need to get a couple of Dakota Digital boxes
A/C lines and Compressor

The less you can DIY, the higher your budget needs to be
I did mine for less than $2,000 running and driving too. It took 9 months of prep work to get all the necessary parts in order, then 5 solid days of work to get the drivetrain in and running. Making an excel sheet breaking down each system to ensure everything is in order before beginning
IMHO wiring, exhaust, and fuel are the most time consuming aspects
Most people blow the budget out of the water because of mods
