Default Got a weird problem, need advice?

Need some advice guys,I have a weird problem !after my car seems to warm to say around 190 degrees if I go to turn the car off and re try to start it , it doesn't want to re start !like the starter can barely turn the motor over ??I have the fans running at that point, but even if I turn off I get the same results!I thought I was happening do to too much draw from battery when fans are running but that's not it?? Battery seems to be charged fine !if I let it cool off some it will re start!

need a little more info, but sounds like the starter is getting hot and cant turn the engine over. how are the headers or exhaust pipes run, check to make sure the starter wires are not too close to the exhaust. heat causes increased resistance.

Is the negative battery cable grounded to the block? If not, it should be even if the battery is in the trunk, ground it to the block.

Have you check the condition of your battery ? what is the Voltage ?

and as stated. .check to makre sure you got a good ground from the battery to the block. As well as to make sure your Battery connections are clean and secure

My BBC used to heat soak the starter all the time, the one time I proved it, it heat soaked at my friends restaurant, I filled a 5 gallon bucket with ice and water, dumped it right on the starter, hit the key and it fired right off!!

Not the best way, but it worked!

Voltage is good, but what you need is amps. Just because it has 12v dosen't mean the battery is good enough to start an engine.

When I read the title of this thread, I have to admit, I got a little nervous. But after reading about the issue, it turns out, your weird problems are nothing like mine. Good luck!

Well I just double checked and my ground is the head not block so I will switch it for sure!! I have a new optima battery!the reason why I font think it's battery is because there is always enough juice when car is cool to crank over!

Optima batteries suck!

Well...at least I have had zero luck with them. Once they go dead...I could never get them charged. I tried all the tricks..two batteries...fancy smanshy charger. Nothing worked. I finally bought a regular battery and it fixed my problems.

You could also have a bad starter? Buy one of the gear reduction starters if so. Best of luck!

It could be a solenoid voltage issue. Try hooking a jumper wire on the start lug on the starter solenoid. Next time it won't start, jumper that wire straight to the battery + post. See if that works. If that works, then you might need to install a remote start solenoid. Basically means there is too much resistance in the start wire circuit so you don't get enough juice to fully engage the solenoid. The remote start solenoid (i.e. Ford) is a pretty common solution for starter heat soak.

You can also try jumpering out the solenoid by wedging a screw driver across the two big starter lugs. Might be kind of tough to do with those headers. If that works then you know your battery and starter are good.

Oh, jumpers bypass things like neutral saftey switches and clutch switches, so be ready for the motor to start if you do it.

if you even suspect your battery, take it to the local Autozone, Sears, Kragens, etc and have them do a load test on it. as noted, voltage maybe up.. but its cranking amp are down.. ?

I have always been told and said.. 90% of electrical problem are bad Grounds !

What I did was ground my battery to the Frame, Block and Body (3 wires).. I also have grounds from the block to the Frame (each side at the engine mount). Also ground from the back of the head (where the harness / PCM) to the Body. Yeah. I know it is a bit of over kill.. but I am sure it is not going to be problem !

Having your battery in the Truck, you need to make sure your ground are good and clean (bare metal) and use very heavy gauge wires.
