No need to convince me, John. I've read your other posts on the subject and as I mentioned, I had one blow off on me on the track last weekend. We're going to replace our stock of the old style with the new one and send replacements out to our customers who have one installed. The tech I talked to mostly wanted to talk about how to install it, but I eventually convinced him to dig out the part number. If I hadn't had photographic proof of the part's existence, I might not have been insistent enough!
For the summit part number, add RUS- to the beginning of the Russell number. ie, RUS-644120. I got the shipping dates from Russell themselves, although I've also had conflicting information from Summit as to when they'll be available.

John,
Are the outside diameters of the new fitting the same as the old fitting? The reason for my question is that on the Corvette filter/regulator, the feed and return is very close together (mine old fittings actually touch each other) so if the new fitting has a larger OD it would be a problem.
Thanks again,
Andy1

Just a reminder of my above question; are they same-same, or not?
Thanks,

I've had a long talk with one of the Edelbrock techs. The new part numbers are:
644120 (3/8" hard line to -6, replaces 640850)
644110 (5/16" hard line to -6, replaces 640860)
Both will be available starting on Friday, June 17. It sounds as if John really did get a set of preproduction ones. Summit has them available for ordering now.
And thanks John for all the good info - I had one of the older fittings blow off on my LS-powered Miata on the track this weekend, that could have ended very badly had my luck gone the other way. We use several of these in our Miata conversions and we do not want any roasted customers!

I called Russel yesterday (Friday) and they said they where going to start producing them soon in black. pn# 644123. He also stated that these in 5/16 where on "the list" to be made. For what its worth.

I'm keeping my fittings, but using the hose trick others noted to ensure the clips can't back out. From what I've gathered, its not the prettiest option (although i used clear hose so its almost unnoticeable) but nobody has had theirs fail after doing this.
If I'm corrected on this, I may change my mind

Why would a customer have to pay twice? If a fitting pops off and sprays fuel on a hot engine...and something burns down, or someone gets injured or worse...is Russel prepared to pay for that? Or would they ship out 2 new fittings for their own insurance?
In this thread it says I'd be hard pressed to find someone who hasnt had an issue. I've never heard of any issues before I bought mine, this changes things.

Well, our customers aren't going to have to pay twice. We're shipping out replacement parts to every car we've built that uses these. Out of something like 15 cars, only two have had a problem. But that's two too many.
Russell doesn't seem to think there is a problem. The old design is not going out of production, it's being joined by a different one. If I understood the tech correctly, they say the new one is for "high pressure" applications. You'll still be able to buy the older one, so this problem won't go away.
If you burn your car down and you think it was one of these fittings, good luck with taking Russell to court. Me, I figure a new fitting is about the same price as a fire extinguisher and a small price to pay.
