Putting a electric temp sensor in a 4l80e

I haven`t done it on an 80e, but when I was looking for my 60e there were a couple schools of thought. Some said to put it in the pan (anywhere) so that it measures the temp of the fluid that the trans is sucking up. Others said that the true measurement is inline on the output line to the cooler B/C this is just after the converter and will show the peak fluid temp.
In the end I drilled the pan B/C I felt that it was the closest temp to the fluid that was passing through the friction material which is what I feel matters the most.

on the drivers side of the trans, there should be some pipe plugs in the side of the case. They should be 1/8" NPT. On a truck trans a few years ago, I put the Autometer 1/8" NPT sensor in that port and it worked out perfect. The plug is an access port to read line pressure. It is right by the trans linkage area.....

I don`t seem to have a pic with it installed, and mine is a 60e not 80e. I just drilled a hole in the lower portion of the back of the pan toward the pass side and welded half of a pipe coupling in.
