Default 45 degree flare on spectra tank leaks...

So I hooked up the 45* flare pressure line on my spectra tank to a hose I made with Aeoroquip fitting # FCM-1134. It's a TFT hose end for 45* flare. I filled the tank and pressurized the line and at first it was good until I saw a slight drip from the pressure side from the fitting. It is hard to tell whether I just botched the hose end or whether I have the wrong fitting, but people have confirmed this hose end works on this forum.

I know in an fittings you don't need thread tape, but do you need it on 45* fittings?

You shouldn't need tape. The flare should seal itself, the nut just holds it in place.

Try tightening it up a smidge more. Sometimes an iffy flare will deform enough to seal.

Are you sure the fitting on the tank is 45 degrees and not 37, like a regular AN fitting?

Pretty sure its a 45*. The fitting was recommended by another member of the board.
Also I tightened the bejesus out of it. Must be just I effed up the hose end. I'll try another one next time I work on the car.

I didn't know Aeroquip made 45* flare fittings. Most of the 45* fittings I have ever used are "SAE 45" and are usually found in brass. Any fitting store would have them - they might be worth a try. I used them on my fuel system and they worked well.

I'm using that fitting without any problems. Maybe you overtightened it? Or maybe the hose end got buggered up?

You may want to check the fitting for cracks. I've cracked a few brass fittings by over tightening them.

I just went through this with my fuel system. I had done as much as possible with hard lines but every hard line connection leaked. And I tightened the bejeebus out of them too. A friend recommended I use conical seals. Got them in Sunday and no more leaks. Here is what I bought:

Not sure if they will work with your 45 degree flares or if they make them for the 45 degree flares. Are you sure its 45 degrees? Seems kinda odd to me since the most common fittings are all 37 degree.

Best of luck!

You sure it's not the line where it goes in the fitting rather than the flare??
