I'm swapping an 07 4.8 into my 95 s10. I paid $150 for the long block and it runs perfectly. Down the road I am defiantly throwing some boost at it. No one wants them, so you can get a killer deal on one.

I'm doing a 4.8 swap into my 95 9C1. This will be a drag only car and running a carb. I plan on running a 4000 stall th350, 4.10 rear.

Looking for a cam for max power.

Just picked up an '08 4.8/4l60e combo with all accessories, wiring and computer for $700.

Planning on putting it in my daily driver '92 Sonoma ext/cab. Nothing special, just more horsepower and much better gas mileage than the 4.3 TBI.

Whats the compression on a 4.8 with stock unshaved 317 heads and stock thickness head gaskets is it all the way down to 8.0 or is it closer to 8.5

if you had a 9.2 to 1 4.8 with 61cc heads and put on a pair of 71cc head you would drop down to 8.22.
On a motor is this size and stock compression range you will change the comp ratio by about .1 for every cc change. So milling 5cc's out of the heads will raise it by half a point, or going to 5cc bigger chamber heads will lower it about half a point. As you get to the far extremes with the compression the 1cc to .1 change starts getting less accurate, but around these stock LS compression ratios its a pretty solid rule of thumb.

Any of your larger truck salvage yards should have plenty of 4.8's.

4.8 hasn't been a real popular swap in the past, however the new Hot Rod article will probably change that. They had a stock bottom end 4.8 that made 1200+hp with a pair of twins.

i traded a 305 and 350, both were locked up, for a 4.8 with low mileage. it's goin in my truck right now with a 700r4, but i will eventually upgrade to a 6.0 and 4l60e

Maybe it's different in other areas, but around here 4.8s sell for exactly the same price in junk yards as 5.3s. The 5.3 is much more common, so it keeps prices low. Considering all of the other expenses associated with the swap, I couldn't imagine going with a 4.8 for the sake of saving $100 or $200. At equal pricing, a 4.8 makes no sense at all.

I finished said swap and am extremely happy with the 4.8. More than enough power for my truck. I put in an 02+ LS6 cam, LS6 yellow valve springs and LS7 lifters. Seems like its the perfect cam for this motor, this is definitely the way to go if your gonna run a 4.8.

I am running this motor in my project car. It runs real good, seems plenty powerful, and will be even more so when I turbo it this winter

I am only running a LS1 Cam at the moment, but I am debating going bigger, something like 224 Duration and .560 lift..... LS6 cam will be used with boost....

Whats the capabilities of the 4.8 N/A? In detail, stock heads swap, not sure if the 241s would swap over, but my question is a stock 03 4.8, what stock lsx heads, with a decent sized cam and what intake could get me to 350whp+ ? Honestly I'd like 400 crank hp but not sure if its feasible with the 4.8. I do not want to spray it or turbo it so is this feasible with full exhaust?

If your at 350whp, you are well over 400 at the crank..... The hotrod setup they just did made 451 at the crank, cnc'd the stock heads, FAST intake and TB, Unknown spec cam....

They also didn't post a dyno chart, but NA it hit that right at 7K rpm

was that carb'd or FI? Im going to go FI with it if I end up using it more than just a mock up motor.
