5.3 engine tunning questions...

5.3 engine tunning questions... I want to drop a 5.3 into my turbo mustang. The car has a 351w and a blow through CSU carb. I am looking at my timing choices for the 5.3. I grabbed the truck wiring and PCM when I pulled the motor, but the cost of HP tuners and EFI live is not doable for me.
I want to stick with the carb so I only need timing control. MSD has the 6LS box, which has a step retard but no boost retard. I found a boost retard that works with the 6LS, but that was another $300 or so(of course I can't find a link to it now).
Second choice would be to use a Megasquirt II set up for timing only, probably using the Ford EDIS crank trigger and coil packs. This option would give me the option of doing fuel injection latter if I wanted to, but would be less of a plug and play type thing.
What are you guys using for timing on your turbo carb applications? Thanks.
