I'll be giving the 6L90 a shot since I already have it. You're right Merv in that it's potentially expensive to work with since it is still a relatively new trans with little aftermarket support as of now.

The only thing I'm concerned about right now is the ground clearance. Iv'e seen in other threads how low the pan is. Just can't slam the car I guess.

It's going to be really hard to get it to fit. It's a LOT taller tranny than any of the others. It will require a lot of tranny tunnel work, or else it will be dragging the ground.

I figured as much. I'm cool with hackin the tunnel up. Especially since my floors are super crunchy and I already had plans to work on the floor.

Why not keep the 200 R4 and build it to handle the power?

Won't work with the DBW (without making a custom kickdown bracket.) Rather go computer controlled anyway.

Little cleaning up in the engine bay. Old POR-15 held up for the most part, may still do some painting anyway.

Thanks iroc! I'll need it. Surprise at every turn. Here's the latest development....

Found me a complete floor via ebay. Shipping from California where they don't have these kind of problems. Price with shipping was better than the repo pans and I won't have to worry about the brace or seat mounts. **EDIT: Must have come from an El Camino with a bench seat. Ended up having to buy seat mounts. Otherwise fit was very close

Floor finally came in from ebay seller in two pieces. they look pretty clean (as California parts should be.) Going to start pulling stuff apart and prepping for weld-in asap.

Have you decided on a cam yet?
How's the 6L90 fitment coming along?

I'm wanting to drop my LY6 into my 86 SS and keep the 200 4R. Any thoughts on how difficult that custom bracket might be or knowledge of previous success with that approach?

Cam budget is a little blown due to floors and some other things so I'm going stock for now just so I can get this thing going asap. We are very close to the first trial fit with the 6L90.

As for the 2004r + DBW I've seen some people come up with a good system for the tv cable. Looks like a custom bracket off the throttle pedal is the way to go. You may have to do some googling on "DBW tv cable" for some creative examples. Good luck with your swap!

7/10/12 getting the seats and carpet out. seat bolts were a mess and it took us awhile to get them out. This is the extent of the rust damage.....

Wow....making good progress quickly.

I'll be following you along throughout this build.

Which oil pan is that specifically. Seems like guys are using a variety of different LS pans. The best I can tell pans that offer good clearance are the CTS-v, 98-02 F body pan, Mast $$ and Holly/RetroLSx $$$. I've got a lead on a complete F body kit for $150 shipped but not sure if it will work in all instances. I hear the Kartech is very versatile. I'm staying away from the HotRod pan due to the many complaints of clearance issues I've been reading.

Are you keeping the truck accessory drive set up as is, going with a car acccessory setup, or some variation of the two of them? From the looks of your alternator location I'm guessing the truck accessory set up.

Your thoughts regarding the following

-Oil pan selection
-Motor mount adapter selection
-Wiring harness options (I need both a harness as well as a computer.

Doing anything with your stock connecting rod bolts? ie ARP? Or leaving them alone?

Which/who's cam are you leaning towards? Comp cams, Mast motor sports, Texas speed? Texas speed seems to brag alot about how their phase limiters are made to work with each specific cam they offer as I understand.

Will you be installing a phaser restrictor to limit the VVT or will that depend more so on your final cam selection?

Just ignore all this if it becomes annoying to you. Your project has me really excited. My Monte just arrived into my driveway this past Sunday so I'm a bit stoked right now.

Oil pan: P/N: 19212593 – muscle car conversion kit. I grabbed this one because I'm not terribly concerned about ground clearance right now as the 6L90 will probably hang fairly low as well. I have heard good things about the CTS-V pan.

The plan is to keep all the truck accessories. When I do the test fit I will have a better understanding as to how I will proceed. I've seen it done all different ways but, I will feel better having it right in front of me.

Oil pan: Do your research but I'd say CTS-V

Mounts: Many options but I went with Trans Dapt 4595 - 1" Set-back

Harness: So far I've heard good things about http://psiconversion.com/ and http://speartech.com/ both are a good chunk of change but it seems easier than modding the harness on your own. psiconversion seems to have a better price if you don't have a stock harness to send in for modification.

Motor/cam: I'm staying completely stock for now so I can get things going. I will probably just get a tune to hold me over until I decide on direction for more power. I don't think you could go wrong with any of those companies for your cam choice.

I would read through the G-body swap thread (It's a long read.) I found some good info in there.

I'll be watching this thread, you're doing a great job so far! Hopefully it'll give me inspiration to get a motor and try to do this on my El camino.

My buddy (who is a bit more talented with fabrication) and I are starting to fit the floors to the car after a lot of prep work. There are some slight differences with the pans since they are from an El Camino.
