Default Avus Blue LS1 M3 Project *With Vids*

Hey guys,

I have a 1995 Avus Blue BMW M3 with a great running LS1 and T56 tranny from a 02 Camaro SS. I have raced BMWs all my life and will be road racing this one too!

Haven't done much to the motor yet but this is what has been done so far:

-Long tube headers becuase of the lack of space on the sides of the motor
-dual 3in pipe from the headers, to two 3in high flow cats to a single 4in outlet
-low temp thermostat
-4in intake
-MSD APS starter
-40% lock up 3.46 rear differential

Its at about 308whp / 313tq for now

I hope to do some cam/head work soon.

here are some pics:

Nice looking car! Do you have any pics of the swap process? Just curious to get a look at your headers and mounts.

Very nice car. Are you planning on stripping the interior and doing a cage? What series will you be running?

I'll be at SOW this Saturday helping sort a friends 914 V8 (mostly track car).

Thanks. No pics headers and mounts as taking pictures of the process rarely crossed my mind but I will take some real soon when I get under there again.

I've followed almost all your E30 adventures. Great work

Eventually but Ill take my time getting it there as I do like to drive this car daily if possible. I might even put the AC back in but I havent made that decision yet.

I dont really have a series In mind yet util I learn to properly drive this car to be competitive in any class.

Its not that bad at all. the hardest part are the headers and the side clearance. But yet the current kits are a pretty penny but I figure I can solve that next time by learning how to weld.

well i know how to weld luckily, and was tinking if theres enough room in front of the engine between the radiator, i could do a front mount turbo like on an fbody and run the exhaust down the passenger side like stock

does there appear to be enough room for either stock manifolds or shortys to be mounted on the drivers side flipped to poing forward and clear the steering arm? sorry for all the questions but i havent been able to find and good pics of this area and since my car is still running and driving fine im not in a rush to tear her apart. i love the e36 chassis and think it would be fun when i pull up to a light next to a vette and be able to give him a run in my 19 yr old 4 dr

you can run shorty's flipped on the drivers side and clear the steering shaft but none of the stock manifolds clear no matter their orientation on the drivers side

Guys, I don't mean to highjack the thread but I have some info on this. You can run a truck pass side manifold on the drivers side with a v-band welded on & an Impala SS (LS4) FWD Front manifold on the pass side (again you must weld the v-band flange to the manifold). The clearance between the frame rail and manifold flange is very close and may required a little convincing to be on the "safe" side. You have to run a custom steering shaft to get around the truck manifold. Ask me how I know...

My car looks almost identical to the OP's car- color, engine, etc It is currently about 70% of the way done being mocked up for a Turbonetics 76MM. The hardest part was turbo placement. It ended up going down low and slightly to the drivers side. I am going to have to run a scavenge pump. No matter how I tried, something didn't fit unless I did it this way. My radiator is literally moved about 4" forward, core support trimmed out, etc. I have utilized many of the ideas the F-body guys do when it comes to this. Fan clearance, air filter routing, intercooler tube routing all has to be taken into account.

I am currently in the process of re-designing my a/c system, as the down pipe resides where the compressor was. There are bracket kits that use the GM R4 compressor that seem like they may be the hot ticket. Originally, I used a 318 compressor and the New Age Hot Rods bracket (which worked awesome- A/c Compressor, bracket, and the one custom line are for sale). I cant wait to see more LSX equipped E36's out there. Mine gets the weirdest looks. People either love it or absolutely hate it!

The cam is well worth the investment. Mine picked up ~1 sec and 6 mph in the 1/4. I went with the TSP 228 114* lobe sep. DO IT!
