Default LQ4 proper operating temperature?

My LQ4 is set to have the fan turn on at 197 degrees. It also turns off at that same temp. The car will get up to about 200, maybe 201 degrees according to the ECM, then will immediately start cooling down.
It's a mark 8 fan on a 4 core, so when I turn it on, basically the temp stops climbing. In my old 383, if I turned on the fan at 160, that is where it would stay.

Is 200 degrees too hot? What temp should I be shooting for? What I notice with this setup is that it will go on at 197 and then go up to 200, and basically stay between those numbers. Is it better to have one steady temperature like this, or to say, have it go on at say 185 and off at 175?

Also, will running at 200 degrees down to the tuner (70 miles away) be a problem for an iron block with aluminum heads (ls3)?

200-degrees is fine. Typically, fans are set to go on at a higher temperature than they go off (so they cycle). Your particular fan settings are usually a function of what part of the country you live in (most people would want to run 160-deg in Minnesota during the winter). Regardless, you will be fine to drive the vehicle at 200-degrees to your tuner.

With regards to your temperature readings....The few degree temperature rise is probably due to the delay in the reading at the ECM. Even though you see the temperature rise on the computer, in reality, the coolant temperature in the radiator is going down.

By the way, what thermostat are you running?

IM running a Griffin 2row with LS1 dual fans on my LQ9. If the temp outside is under 100 then my car never runs over 170. But if its over 100 it only gets to 180. all day long in traffic it doesnt make a difference. My fans come on with ignition.

Actually I have no idea about the thermostat. So even on an iron block 200 is fine?
