Default mileage?

Im still considering going with a LS engine but im wondering how many miles is too much? I see engines with 70-80K miles on them for sale lately that seems a little high to me but is it? Not planning a crazy build, at least not first time out. Probably go carb 5.3 with a cam and maybe some head work. I just don`t want to buy a engine with too many miles and have to rebuild it.

I'm trying to find a 5.3L w/ that low of miles around me.... they all have +130k around here. I know of all kinds of people buying them for conversions and running them to 200k no problem at all..... it blows my mind lol

If you are not afraid of the motor work, then just put a basic rebuild on an older motor. No real harm there.

I have a 100K miles LS1 that I am just throwing new bearings and rings in. Should be good to go!

Ive built several engines but I don`t want to do that. I just wanted to know how many miles is too much.

I wouldn't be too concerned with a "high" mileage LS1. A few guys on the corvetteforum have put over 300K, without needing a rebuild. If you plan on dropping the motor/transmission in without doing major mods, like forced induction/nitrous, you should have a motor that will last a while.

With most LS engines you can pull the heads at 150K and still see the cross hatch in the cylinder walls from the original hone.
