Question LS block external dimensions with 2004R

Hello,

new here & the plan is to swap in a ls2 into my 88 Monte SS & keep the 2004R tranny.

I'm trying to find out if the LS blocks are the same external dimensions as a gen 1 small block in the area of the bellhousing pad so that I can choose which motor mount adapters to get.

I would like to keep the same crossmember & transmission location as stock, so to achieve this, do I want the stock location adapters, or the 1" setback to compensate for any difference in the blocks bellhousing length?

TIA for any help.

I believe, and someone will definitely chime in on this, but the 200r4 has the the dual BOP/Chevy pattern in it so you should be good to go. I have seen a 200R4 bolted to the LY6 I currently own. You will need to get the appropriate flywheel spacer, etc to bolt the flexplate to the converter but that isn't a really big deal. Don't forget that you will still need to have the TV cable hooked up for the 200R4 but if you are running a carb then you will just need an appropriate bracket for it.

if you are runnign fuel injection then I believe there are also brackets available to bolt to the LS.

Long story even longer...you are good to go with your 200R4 with regards to physically mating them

Thanks for the reply. I am already aware though that the 2 will mate. The main point of my question was to fine out what adapter plates I need to keep the trans in the stock location.

I'm not sure if the LS blocks are shorter in than a gen 1 sbc in the bellhousing area. To keep the trans in the stock location, would it require the setback mounts to compensate for any difference in length with a LS block?

It's this thread that makes me question what mount adapters I need to keep the trans in the stock location:

I had the same concern so I just bought adapters that slide to wherever I want them. Dirtydingo makes them. Not 100% sold on the quality of the bolts they include but the pieces themselves are pretty nice.

Same thing I used to bolt up my TH350 will work for that 2004R.

6.0l Flexplate, Spacer & Bolts. You will have to notch out the holes..

Thanks for the replies.

Merv,

Is your th350 in the stock location, & if so, do you have the 1" setback mounts or stock location? I looked in your build thread, but I didn't see it listed anywhere.

I have the regular SBC to LS1 Conversion Plates..I had to modify my Crossmember to rin the TH350 since the T56 is normally in the car.
