Default 1991 Supra Turbo

So im trying to get things budgeted and in order to put a LQ9 converted to LS1 in the car. I understand i need an engine duh, and to convert to LS1 i need the intake manifold, fuel rails, and injectors. I also understand that i will have to either use all corvette accessory pulleys or switch out the water pump pulley. My main concerns are with wiring. Ive read all pin out information, and all the computer information posted on the forum, but my questions are

What harness do i need? Do i convert the truck harness? Buy a painless? or do i need a vette harness.
I know the computer needs to be flashed to get all the unneeded codes out of it, but my question again is how do I go about getting a check engine light displayed in the car? I need to be able to check codes for the engine obviously.

as for right now those are the main issues i have i will bring up anything else as it comes along. Thanks in advance for the help i appreciate it.

The vendor here - psiconversion can get you hooked up with a real simple harness as well as program out the VATS, EGR, etc etc. Shoot him a pm and get started....

Mod your own harness, it's not that hard.
You can keep the truck injectors/pigtails by removing the plastic tip of early ones or simply reusing flex fuel injectors on an LS1/6 intake. It will require aftermarket rails.
You can keep the truck accessories with some slight mods.
Who ever reflashes your ecu will remove the unused stuff but will keep the check engine light and OBD II port capability. You just need to wire them in.
My 5.3 with modified truck haness, truck accessories, injectors, LS1 intake, aftermarket rails.

how is the swap going for you im getting ready to do this for a friend and trying to get as much info as possible before tearing into it. but mostly just finding in complete treads where people start and then it fall off. i know that quite a few have been done just not well documented. this is not my first ls swap although it will be the first supra that i have worked on in about 10 years.

This is a fairly easy swap. You can fab motor mounts that line right up with the factory engine mounts on the subframe. The transmission crossmember is easy also. The Corvette FFR mounts where the stock filter did in the rear of the car. Install a Walbro pump in the stock tank and you are good to go. 1st generation CTS-V exhaust manifolds work but angle milling the mounting flange allows them to tuck closer to the block for a little more clearance. Making the stock gauges work isn't too bad either, program ECU for 6 cyl tach and use a Cable-X box for the mechanical speedometer. 4th gen Camaro oil pan clears the crossmember with no modifications.

The LS engine is way lighter than the stock turbo engine so you will need shorter springs in the front. Also the LS engine has most of the weight behind the shock towers and sits lower in the chassis.

I am also doing a MK3 supra lsx turbo, my question is what engine mounts will work best. I know that chopping and cutting is required but does anybody know which would fit a mk3 supra better?

The ones we used that are in the photos above came from here.

http://www.progressiveautomotive.com/motor.htm

They are model MM-LS1. We then made the plate with the tab on it that fits into the stock subframe. We used a grade-8 bolt tack welded to the plate so that you could install the nut from the bottom side which is easily accessible. The tube from the motor mount kit fit perfectly over the top of the bolt and also prevents the bolt from turning should the tack weld ever break. Hope that is clear. Unfortunately I don't have pics of those parts.

not a huge fan of the electric to cable boxes. i know the rx7 guys are able to retrofit an acura speedo stepper into the stock cluster and have it function with the t56 speed sensor. gonna take the supra cluster apart and see if this is an option. thanks for posting the link to the mounts and the pics of your swap.
