Default Chevelle 4.8 Turbo

I am installing a factory set of LS6 valve springs in my 4.8 that will be going in my Chevelle. My wonderful wife gave me the springs, conversion flexplate and 2 bar map sensor for Christmas. I have the Vats removed and the harness finished. I bought the Motor mount adapters from Ebay so In about 2 weeks I will start the install. I would love for someone to sell me a stock LS6 cam at a good price. Anybody have one? I will post pics as I get started. And if anyone is interested the 454 being removed is for sale! Any advice or suggestions would appreciated.

That should be a fun project! What you using for exhaust manifolds? Let me know if you need 01-02 f body or truck manifolds. Got em sitting around.

I will be following your thread brother. I too am turbocharging an A-body. Using a 5.3, and sourcing a Z06 cam and ls3\Z06 springs as well. Where did you have your harness and pcm done?

I rewired the harness that came with the engine and the bought HP Tuners to do the pcm myself. I'm a tech at a Md Chrysler dealer so I am pretty handy with auto electonics. The harness wasn't hard, just a little time consuming. I put my LS6 valve springs in this morning. I have youtube vieo of the engine running on the stand by spraying brake clean in the throttle body, but it was made before removing the VATS from pcm. I have since had it running with a fuel pump in a 5 gallon bucket of gas.

Yeah, Thats what I am gonna do. Can't afford a cam upgrade right now. I'm gonna get the car running N/A for now while I collect all the turbo flanges and waste gates and all the other goodies. I still need a fuel pump, going with A1000, and gonna get a MAF. Also need cheap shortie headers that I won't mind cutting up to make turbo headers. As for now I have the truck manifolds turned upsidedown. Don't have the Y-pipe flanges to bolt to them though.

Why not just stick with the manifolds then? I have 3 friends locally making over 800 rwhp on manifolds and one is 1150 rwhp on manifolds and an 88mm.

That was my plan origionally, just thought headers would be easier to cut and weld on. I also need the y-pipe flanges for the manifolds, or I have to cut the ends off and weld pipe to the cast, not an easy task.

The cast material that the truck manifolds are made out of is much easier to weld than the older stuff. Look into it, there are lots of threads with info on welding v-band flanges to truck manifolds.

Look for a str of mustang headers. The mounting flange can be cut and an LS1 flange welded back on. They should fit plus you may beable to turn them around to the front when you get ready for the turbo setup.

Upside down ? meaning the collector end is pointed up or down? I thought you could only switch left and right sides but they would still be exiting downward.

This is a video of my engine on the stand. Notice the manifolds upside down. Gonna cut the three bolt flange off and weld some pipe to it.

This video is of a Chevelle that is my inspiration. Notice the manifolds.

I love that car too. I seen it in a mag. and read some articles on it. BUT ! I could have swore that the exhaust port holes on the heads are offset up or down therefor if you mount the manifolds the way u got them the manifolds and heads ports dont line up from top to bottom .....I held mine up on my 5.3l and realized this problem so I have been discourged on using the manifolds to do my 88 monte carlo 5.3l TT set up. Am I wrong ?

I've seen several others using mainifolds like this and when I shined a flashlight down in the left side with the manifold upside down like in my video, the number 1 port lines up perfect.

Well damnit ! I checked mine out and I dont know how the hell I had that mixed up. They are centered up top to bottom. Thanks for the link. I guess I can stop worrying about what to do for headers. I dont think I ever seen manifolds turned pwards like yours. I always see them pointed down. Thanks for setting me straight on that.

I Wouldnt use t70s on a 4.8

had them on my 4.8 and wouldnt even start spooling till 3400.

i traded to 60s and that improved it a lot. if you are looking for less than 1000 hp and just have to do twins, i would go with something in the 50s range

I got a good deal on the t70s and I have a 3200 stall converter. I have to use what I have. I bought the engine, 2 new turbos, HP Tuners, and a few misc items and $1600 invested so far. If I could get the BBC sold I could finish the project.

You are coming along 99, and you have to use what you have. A buddy on here gave me his F-body manifolds (thanks Goldrush98) and like you once the car gets running then, I will worry about the turbo portion. I see you have a C5, same here. What mods and are you on CF? What kind of MAF are you running (getting ideas before I contact PSI) and what can you tell me about the HP Tuner?
