awd ls1? bmw x-drive?
awd ls1? bmw x-drive? I did a search and couldn't find much on what I'm interested in doing. Bascially I am sick of the cheap f-body feel and impracticality of a rwd car in New England winters. I would love to have the power and reliability of an ls in something refined and good for daily driving like a bmw, merc,audi etc. I have been thinking about an e36 swap or clk320 swap, which have been done and work out really well. However, I have yet to see any of the awd systems function with these euro ls1 swaps. I realize the upped level of difficulty with this, but has anyone attempted any euro awd ls1 swaps like an e36 or e46 x-drive? Are any euro awd platforms even do-able for this?

i take it by euro awd, you mean the electronically controlled systems that toggle the abs and transfer torque? I tend to favor fully mechanical AWD systems and they do get great results for winter driving. Might save you some $$$ if winter driving is the main reason you want to do this.
The only AWD LSx swap I've seen in a european car is a Porsche.
the e36 didn't come here AWD but will say that they work great in the snow w/ snow tires... it's currently what I run in the winter until I can get to the LSx swap. Another member ran a LSx swapped e36 in the snow just fine too.
One swap I've been thinking about, because I'm fan of AWD as well, is 3.6 SRX AWD setup into a e36 or e30 and turbocharge it.
Looking at the way AWD bmw's are set up though it looks like the front drive shaft goes through the oil pan. Seems to me the easiest way (relitivly speaking) is to only use the LS engine and adapter plate to the BMW transmission and custom make the LS oil pan to fit the front BMW diff and axles.
