2010 camaro SS LS3 starter for swaps
#23
a pigtail would come without a pin installed and if yours didn't, it had to
be a defect.
The only part I needed to source for the starter was a nut to secure the
power cable from the battery to the solenoid post.

The center conductor pin? Can you post a picture? I can't imagine how

it didn't come as a pigtail, it was a baggie of parts, the plug, the rubber grommet, the retainer on the rear, everything you need to build a pigtail except for the pin. the weird thing is i ordered the part number you said from the same place you ordered yours from so i'm confused... i'm just going to go to my local dealership and order the assembled pigtail...
The PN, no idea why yours came unassembled and incomplete.
The starter has been working flawlessly BTW, as you can expect
From a genuine Delco part. The integrated heat shield is nice too.

ok, looking at the receipt and email correspondence, i found the issue...
I had gotten an email from someone named norma at the dealership with a few PN changes, " 12101763 changes to 13584479 "
12101763 is the pigtail. 13584479 is labeled "Connector Kit". which would be fine if it came with a terminal... the good news is it only costed $6.44 so i don't feel that bad about tossing it, just slightly annoyed...

I ordered this starter because of this thread, because it seemed like a good deal and i needed a new starter. Well, just a FYI this starter will not work with the f-body t56 bellhousing. Wish i would have known that before i ordered it. Does anybody want a brand new starter with (2) long starter bolts and heat shield with bolts for heat shield? I'll take $150 shipped. They are the exact same items listed above.

I just confirmed with that tremec fbody bellhousing on a bare LS3 block that there is an interferance. The nose of the starter closest to the block hits the starter pocket. If the bellhousing is set on the block, the bolt holes are about 3/16" off with the starter bolted down.
How much did you grind out of the bell? How far into the pocket? The flange on the bell is pretty thick but above that flange is pretty thin.

Seems like the new bellhousings do not work but original 2001 and 2002 bellhousings do. I test fit the starter in my 2001 and it seemed to fit. I would have noticed the interference I found on my new bellhousing.

Hey guys-
Just did this swap on my 72 Chevelle with LS376/480 and 1999 F-body T56 combo (F-body bell). I had some interference in the bellhousing that was contacting the starter and causing the starter not to seat properly. I noticed that the starter was canted upwards a few degrees, and did not like it. When I looked at my pictures afterwards, I could tell that the centerline of the 2010 starter was about 3/4" higher (closer to the mounting pad on the block) effectively moving the starter about 3/4" higher in the bellhousing. That caused the clearance issues. I clearanced about 3/16" of material around the top of the bellhousing and smoothed the top of the starter just a bit and everything fit great afterwards. I have not started the car yet - but that is coming this weekend. First time running since Feb 2007. Can't wait. See the pictures in the thread below (sig block).

[QUOTE=85MikeTPI;15978488]Just to close the loop on this..
My new 2010 Camaro LS3/L99 starter arrived today along with the pigtail and hardware.. Figured I'd try the stock heat shield out also since it wasn't much more $$ while I was ordering the stuff..
QUOTE]
So this pigtail is for the engagement/trigger of the starter, correct?
thanks,
Jim

Jim-
I did the heat shield also. It is a quality piece, and I only had to trim is a little to get it to fit in the Chevelle. And, yes, the pigtail is for the starter trigger wire (purple). FYI - my order was on backorder from Partszoneonline for a week because of the 3 screws that hold on the heat shield.

Launching!
Jimbo, that is correct.
I am using this starter with no issues on my LSX 427 with Tremec Magnum. I had to get the connecter from the dealer for $30 or so. But I couldn't figure out how the heatshield mounted.
