I would like some advice on fabbing the new lines for my 91 corvette LSX swap. I have a 4L60e. What is the easiest material to work with and get good results. I would also like input on what cooler would work well in front of the radiator. Thanks in advance.

 

I would use 5/16 line and cooler from Advanced Auto Parts. Unless your going all out racing then get one of those bad *** ones from jegs or summit with fan built on and steel braid lines and -AN fittings.

 

I have the largest cooler that B&M makes, with the AN adapter fittings for the cooler and trans and have -6 line. It's mounted right in front of my condensor with custom brackets I made and bolted to the core support. I'll have to find a picture for you. It works really well and keeps it below 200 degrees. In the colder weather however it needs a little while to heat up before I beat up on the car.

 

Hey OP, are you that dude on corvette forum who slept with his Super Ram intake the first night he had it? Your car looks the same and I think he was doing an LS swap.

 

I would use 3/8" steel brake lines or 3/8" NiCopp lines. The steel ones are cheap and available in straight lengths at any parts store. The NiCopp lines, also available in straight lengths at the parts store, are supposed to be a little easier to bend, flare, etc. They're a nickel-copper alloy.

You may want to put in a small section of rubber hose to accommodate for engine movement, though I've seen some guys skip that step.

The post above mentions 5/16" lines... Most of the lines I've come across on newer cars are 3/8", though I think I've seen some 5/16" on cars from the 60's and 70's. It would probably be a good idea to stick with whatever size the OEM lines were for that transmission.

I'm using 3/8" and 5/16" brake line from NAPA for my 6x and a tci cooler.

 

Funny how a $60 cooler turns into $230 bucks.

hey im doing the same thing in my swap...i have a 96 2 door tahoe with the same trans. right now i have the stock trans lines which got bent up during the installation etc...i want to run the braided line from the trans all the way to the cooler. what fittings do i connect to the trans directly...

also my truck already had a trans cooler when i bought it. not sure the brand but the connectors are different..

The B&M cooler I bought has 1/2 in. NPT connectors. I bought 1/2 NPT to -6 AN adapters and -6 AN adapters for the 4l60E. From there is just -6 AN lines and fittings.

 

im a complete novice when it comes to these connectors...that looks like hieroglyphics to me.....lol...do u have the part numbers for the fittings for the trans?

No problem, I actually ordered that from advice at this forum and the CF. I'm glad we could help.

 

What I did for mine was went to a local hydraulics shop and had them make me the two lines out of the braided material used on heavy equipment. Both lines were in or around $100 if I recall, it's been a few years.
