LQ4 swap into 84 K5 First start VID
Well... after have 4 gen 1 sbc in my truck since I've owned it... and all of them blowing up. -_- I decided to step up to a LSX.
I used to have a 99 T/A loved the power and reliability of the motor, sold it to buy my diesel. Decided I wanted another LSX ...
Started to part out my 383, guy offered to paint the truck for the heads, serpentine system, intake rockers, and my MSD box. Working through all the bodywork now. Finished product will be "Fiji blue" its a honda color, with a basic GM white top.
Current plan is as follows;
Exhaust:shoefield headers, custom Xpipe, magnapacks/dumps
Intake: factory truck
Wiring:factory modified harness, tied into fuse/relay center from junkyard
Fuel: TBI sending unit, swapping pump out with Walbro 255, using truck intake regulator. Connect factory hardlines to intake via nylon or whatever the new factory hoses consist of.
I ended up getting a cam/springs in a pretty good deal, I was going to throw it in as is and ride out... but at this point I may as well do a full rebuild if I'm tearing it down far enough to do a cam swap.
Onto the Pix...
Truck started with..
383...
I now have TWO pieces of cranks exactly the same....
F*CK Eagle parts...
Onto the new stuff...
Currect truck's state
Following is just one rust spot, I've done the rockers/floors long before. This time I welded up all the factory trim holes, fixed the remaining rust. If people care I can show pix of that as well.
Only badge will be LSX on the cowl, and CHEVROLET on the tailgate.
Mounts 73-87 4x4 specific dirty dingo
LQ4 wiring nightmare...
Cleanin it all up
Friend and I went in on a deal to buy a bunch of truck LSX parts, put one of the blocks in the truck to "test fit" everything for real. Stuff fits like a glove.
Test fitting headers
So.. the headers WILL FIT 4x4 78-87 K series truck, I'm going to notch the frame just a tad. They're quite close when installed, they won't rub as is. But the added clearance will make me more comfortable, also you can't use the factory T-case/bellhousing torque rod. For the record this is an 8" lift.
Figured I'd post it up, I'll update it as progress goes on, paint probably won't get finished till next weekend.
Any question, comments, or Tips!?! Post em up!!

I guess this is an "update" haha
No progress motor wise, actually taking a step backwards.. Requiring a full rebuild now, cam bearings were toast. Guess that should've been expected with a 100K 6.0 though, did discover I think* its a LQ9 not LQ4
In the following pix... this was just after the clear had dried, no cut/buff painter is actually not happy with it, wants to re-scuff and shoot the entire thing a few more times.
Talked him into painting a few little things, he did this slick trick "marbled" effect, shows the silver through the blue ever so slightly. Took a thin bag and rubbed the fresh paint softly then shot it with clear.

Alright... it finally runs. 7 months later.
I DID have to cut the drivers side header collector off, rotate it 180 degrees and re-welded it on. The 02 bung hit the shackle
Truck has to go back together but I did get a first start video!
Video looked good on the phone.. I don't understand how to fix the horrible video quality, sound seems on par tho...
New list of problems, PCM won't turn on fuel pump, bent a pushrod, computer doesn't turn fans on either, (added pin ECU may not be tuned for it tho), still have to wrap up all the wiring and such.
