haha good eye. its stock valve springs and cam. getting valve float like a ************ right over 5000 rpm. plus i havent tuned for meth injection at all and we made it rich on top. i need to figure out if i want to put a cam in it or just swap springs out and do a cam in the spring.

really need to figure out if i should cam it or just put springs in it. i think a cam would be bad *** but at this point im worried about pushing the motor any further. i would like to lessen the torque in the midrange though so im probably going to get one. at that point i would pull the heads and throw some LS9 head gaskets on her and call it good.

Valve float is bad news either way, no reason not to replace springs at least IMO.

If you are really concerned about dropping the torque in the midrange and picking up on the big end the ZR1/LS9 cam did just that on my 5.3. I'd sell it to you cheap if your interested. They made the same power (slightly less than stock actually) up to 5k. Above 5k added quite a bit of power.

LS9/ZR1 VS Stock LM7

Lift 0.558/0.562
Duration 211/230 degrees
LSA 122.5 degrees
Idle vacuum 20.1 in-Hg
Cranking Compression 163 psi
Peak Power 420 at 6,200 rpm
Peak Torque 393 at 5,100 rpm
Average HP 303
Average TQ 360
HP/TQ Gains (Over LM7 cam) at 2,500 -41 lb-ft
3,500 -20 lb-ft
4,500 -2 lb-ft
5,500 +51 lb-ft (53 hp)
6,500 +90 lb-ft (112 hp)

Heres a review of all the stock cams tested on a 5.3.

The F-body with the AJE kmember fit perfect as well and was positioned about 1/2" above the kmember. I liked the fit a lot. The "GM musclecar conversion pan" however hung down a good bit. I did not like that fit at all.

As for the cam, I would get with LilJohn on here for the cam. He will get a custom cam ground for you for no additional charge. He is also one hell of a guy to deal with.
