Default '87 Monte Lsx Swap

First off, I had to get rid of that old 350/350th carb combo and snap into reality and drop a ls engine in my project car asap. In december I found a complete 40k5.3 dropout a week or two before I took a trip out of town. Well, I just recently got back and started on the swap pronto. So any helpful input is appreciated.

The engine is a 07 5.3/4l65 DBW and I'm using BMR mid-length headers that will soon be swapped with ceramic LT's.

Old engine out, engine bay ready for paint after a good mean green wash.

Yeah she's not as easy on the eyes as some of the other projects but it'll work for me for now since its rust free and I'm the 2nd owner.

For mounts I'm using some eBay setback plates with stock clamshells and a gmpp swap oil pan from the local gm dealer for $150.

Is it best to just get the Lokar pedal or 07 monte pedal for the DBW in a gbody?

That's all for the day. Oil pan, headers, and plates on ready to drop in tomorrow morning. Engine bay painted semi gloss black.

Heart surgery is almost done. Engine went in with no problems on the passenger side but we had to wrestle a little to get the driver side to bolt in but the plates work nicely.

Thx man...after the swap, all new suspension next, then that will be soon followed by interior, then paint...then the tops can come off. Lol

Some good news and bad with the good being that the lh8 oil pan fits perfectly and only hangs about 1" below the crossmember and the driveshaft won't have to be taken out and shortened thanks to the setback plates but the bad isn't really bad.

Looking from the top of the fender across to the other it's looking like it will be a tight squeeze if I put the stock hood back on so it might be best to get a cowl hood which is what I wanted anyway.

Pics of pan soon.

^^^ thanks, that's damn near identical to how mine is. I will go back and look at how to get rid of as much as I can that's sitting on the top of the intake. But i slick wanted to run the vortec engine cover but idk, so many options, might just get a ls3 intake but wont that change my fuel setup to returnless or something? And great build thread merv I've followed a lot of that considering we have the same model car.

Nice swap choice...between seeing your swap/build and the Merv's, I am so leaning toward doing a swap on my 87 SS Monte...it has T-tops and nneds a new power plant to replace the punk-*** 305 that's in it now...so many choices, so many projects and so little $$$$...

Was it an option to run returnless? School me. I wanted to run a sump on my stock tank with the truck intake but I really don't know which route to go, just trying to get it done right the first time ya know.

If you run the stock truck Intake you will be fine..get the Fuel Injection Sending Unit and run your lines to the Rails...both the Send and Return.

I used a Car Intake and now my Vic Jr so I had to run the Regulator setup.
