Alternator excitement issue
I did a volt test and am getting 2.75 volts on the brown indicator light wire when the ignition is off, if I disconnect this wire the alternator is no longer excited. There is no voltage on the field duty cycle wire.
Help!
Does having that 2.5v (exciter) cause a normal charging voltage (say, 13 to 14.5v) at the battery? I was under the impression that the normal exciter voltage range was between 4 to 9 volts, and any level under the 4v was not enough to cause charging voltage.
