Default AVG price of a 5.3

Hello everyone! Ive been doing quite a bit of research on the LS but im still pretty new to this whole thing.

I have come to the conclusion that my 454 in my 8mpg 72 Chevelle is not economical with todays gas prices therefore I am going the LS route so I can enjoy driving my car without having to worry so much about gas.

I have been looking into the 5.3 because of its low cost and great mpg plus the future possibilities of a turbo setup.

I have heard of people finding relatively low mileage 5.3s for under 500 bucks. Ive called a few local yards here in phoenix and it seems like the going rate is around 1500 for a complete kit with the computer, harness and accessories. There are also LS1s selling for around 2200 complete and running.

So my question is, is 500 dollars for a complete low mileage 5.3 unrealistic? What have you guys payed for your 5.3s and where did you find one on the cheap? Thanks.

I paid $1200 for a complete LM7 setup. Motor, accessories, harness, PCM, coils, transmission, radiator, condenser, most of the fuel lines, coolant hoses, etc. It was out of a 04 Silverado, supposedly 70k miles.

Smitty, I just swapped an all aluminum l33 into my brothers suburban. Got it for $1000.00 shipped with only 41k. I have his tired but running original 5.3 for sale locally for $250.00, long block only, meaning complete engine minus accessories, harness, starter, etc. pm me if your interested. Whatever you do, make sure you buy from someone reputable, that will stand behind their stuff. These ls engine prices are all over the place!

The local pick and pull here in east texas has low mile (under 100k miles) 5.3s complete for around 750$. I paid a bit more for my LY6 1500$ but it has the L92 heads and only had 18k miles on it. Hope that helps.

I got my '99 5.3 with almost 200k on the clock for $100 bucks, no accessories or wiring. Still has hatch marks in the cylinders, re-ring and new bearings, small cam, lifters, valve springs, some paint, and I think it'll be good to go.
