before jumping into the fire with the illusion that this is the way to go. add up everything you will need to do the swap.are you going to run the truck accessories? truck intake? drive by wire or cable? aftermarket or factory ecu and harness? what oil pan do you need?can or do you want to use factory manifolds? just because they are cheap does not mean this is the best thing for you.are you going to normally aspirate or turbo? depending on the whole picture that fits your build. myself I bought a super low mile 5.3 1,200 complete pull out and ended up using the short block and the tranny, coil packs and that is it.heads and cam swap, front accessory drive swap to corvette, corvette intake, modified factory harness, drive by wire,f body oil pan.thing are not always as they appear.just trying to help you look at the whole pict. before you make up your mind.you might find that a ls1 out of a corvette might work better and cheaper in the long run.

You make a verrry good point. And im definately not going to jump into anything. I havent done enough research yet.

I know I want a strong street machine that gets close to 20mpg with around 400hp and a T56. Initially I would only go with a cam swap. Other than that I would keep everything else stock for awhile and eventually go turbo. Not sure about the drive by wire or harness. I havent looked into that yet.

I have about $2700 in my swap so far. I used everything that came with my engine, Harness, intake, manifolds, PCM, and fuel rails. Includes 2 turbos and HPT. I'm estimating $3200 after turbos are on the car. Idid reuse my trans and bought a CTS-V pan.

I paid 400$ for a '99 5.3l with 171k, everything attached except alternator at a junkyard. Buying another identical one out of a rolled 2001 with 180k for 250$. There is also two more on Craigslist, one for 450$, and another with a transmission attached for 700$. There is even an LS1 with around 20-30k for 1000$. I'm just going to start picking up every one I can get for under 500$!

LMAO! You could probably make decent money freshening them up and selling them.

I would love to run turbos. I can fund a turbo setup after I parted out my 454. The only thing is, I dont have the welding skills to do it.

If you have a price list would you mind posting it here or sending it to me? I am planning a budget turbo build, but my estimates are quite a bit higher than $3200.
