Anyone have any opinions on sound and heat deadning materials? There is so many diff brands and types, there is bubble back, a "felt" like back and another I believe I saw that was almost like a rubber back. Any opinions and knowledge would be greatly appreciated as to to what type and brand is the best bang for the buck. Thanks

There's a hole mess of products that say they're the best and having worked at a high-end mobile audio shop for quite some time I've used almost all of them.
The product I like is called Peel & Seal sold by Lowes Home Improvement and it's only $17.64 a role. I just installed this on a 57 Chevy and it took 3 roles at under 60 bucks, it’s 0.055 thick(with foil backing) compared to 0.060 of dynamat, it works great and for the price it’s even better. The secret to installing ANY Sound / Heat damping product is to apply contact cement to the area and let it get tacky before laying down ANY Sound / Heat damping product. I know there’s a lot of people that would say other words but living in an Area that can get to over 100 in the summer I’ve seen all this stuff peel off the doors or lift up because of the Summer Heat, Just a little insurance. Read the reviews on this, Hope this Helps. My 2 cents

Eastwood brand.... It's foil-lined on top, and butyl rubber & adhesive facing down.
It works great-eliminated all rattle, heat, and most of the noise from below.
I've heard of the Lowe's material, as prev recommended^^^.
Lowe's didn't have any, so I bought Eastwood and am very satisfied.
I would stay away from the felt materials. I originally installed a high-priced version, but it didn't do anything for me.
Your carpet will do a better job than the felt.

I have the same question as the OP. I have also heard some of the cheaper materials can either turn brittle or make the inside of the car smell like asphalt as they age. That is why lots of guys are hardcore dynamat fans.
How well does the lowes stuff age?

I used Fatmat which is the same thing as Dynamat. Bought 100sq/ft of 50mil. off Amazon for $122 shipped. They make thicker versions but I didn't want to add 100lbs of asphalt to the car. Only used about 40sq/ft to do the whole inside of the car. Went on nice and easy after heating it up for a second on top of my kerosene heater, made it super flexible.

Im using FATMat from Ebay, I did the floors and one door so far in my 67 Pontiac LeMans and only used 1/2 a roll. I may do 2 layers on the floors and one on the roof.

I did the bottom of my car in home made Lizard Skin. Buy your favorite color of GLOSS latex paint and then glass micro beads (got mine from aircraft supply place). It takes like 5# of the beads for every gallon of paint. Then spray it on with an undercoating gun. I used a semi gloss paint and the surface is flat when dried. If doing it over, I'd use a high gloss for some better cleanability. It does work too, but more so for heat. Total is about $40 vs. $200 and is exact same finished product except you can choose the color and don't have to topcoat it.
Then when done, apply a layer of plywood to the floor. Silicone it down. There will be NO - ZERO heat transfer and it works great for deading.
I then dynamatted the whole interior - roof if most important. And applied (6) 2' X 3' X 1/2" acoustic foam panels.
Works pretty good.

I just spent sunday putting second skin damplifier in my toyota... I still need to do the firewall but the difference is already amazing. The bit of weight it adds is nothing compared to having a pleasant drive, and maybe I'm getting old and just want a fast but quiet ride.
I'd recommend it, and really any good name brand. Wish I had of done it when I got the truck.
