Default Transmission Questions

I am in the market for a 4l80e. Does anyone know if a 4l80e uses the same drive shaft as a 4l60e? I have a driveshaft from my 700r4 that has already been in the car and was hoping I can reuse it instead of cutting again.

You'll be cutting it...the 4L80e is longer than the 60e...but at least it is better than the alternative...

Better to be too long than too short...at least that's what my wife tells me.

BTW, is that driveshaft a shortened stocker? Because if it is, spend the money on a good driveshaft now because the raping you are gonna put on that stocker will probably put it to an early grave. You're car is real nice too so no sense in beating the **** out of the bottom of your ride to save a couple extra hundred and a month or two.

Yea, it is definitely a different drive shaft.

I had a thick-walled steel driveshaft made for me and I think it was under $200. The shop I took it too was really into sled-pulling with big turbo diesel trucks. He said that I'll tear the car apart before I tear the the driveshaft up. I believe him!

I had strange engineering make me one. It's all 4130 high strength steel and TIG welded. The nicest driveshaft I've ever seen! Comes with a price tho. Lol

I believe the 4L60e and 4L80e have different spline counts.

^^^^Too freakin' funny!!! I use a guy in the area that builds driveshafts for a lot of offroaders so I'm sure he can build me a shaft that will handle the situation.
