What made you end up deciding on the TEA TFS 245 Nitrous port head over the PRC 285cc you originally planned on?

Cathedral heads make their power under 7k rpms.. I don't plan on spinning this engine past 7k ever so there would really be no point in going with a square port head.

That makes perfect sense and is what I was thinking. Thanks for the insight and clarification.

I always love watching your builds. I'm glad you didn't sell the car. I was thinking of going from my t6 s480 to a pt88. What was the power curve and range on your setup?

Very nice! This thing should fly and be fun to drive.
What does this car weigh?

Its been a while since Ive been on this post. The last time I weighed the car NA it was 3100lbs on the dot before the cage, lighter wheels, bigger breaks..so somewhere around 3200 im guessing. I've been having issues with my setup. Im currently running a 262/266 camshaft and its just not working with my setup. I haven't even installed the nitrous yet. I just ordered a 247/251 cam with the same lift and a 112+3 instead of 113+3 that im running now. I should have it all in and running next week and after I tune it if everything goes well ill have the nitrous in it.

Always love your builds bud...what kind of issues were you seeing??? Just a lack of power?

I keep waivering back and forth between NA and FI but being I love how the NA build currently pulls its hard to want to go FI. I also own a CTS-V and when that boost kicks in it is just plain retarded...haha. Funny thing is...they both are horrible gas mileage wise...

Keep up the great work dude! In for updates!

No power, barely any engine vacuum...switched 2 different intakes, compression and leak down..checked every vacuum source...only thing left to change is the cam...and the power doesnt start to come in strong till around 5...and I shift at 7..under that its a pig. I want usable hp.

Almost sounds to me like your heads are just too "big" for the combo and judging by what I think I remember seeing as your cam specs, it is a pretty big cam...which will only make things worse if there is no velcity in the port down in low RPMs.

You'll figure it out...and when you do....WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAA baby! She is gonna pull!!!

Still looking great! Best of luck!

Its a 434ci engine... I think the cam is either just way too damn big or ground wrong. According to Ron at Vengeance the cam makes great power on 440s..so my guess is its ground wrong. So stepping down to a 247/251 should not only fix the problem (unless im lucky enough to get 2 bad cams) but the fact that its 15* smaller all around should make drivability MUCH better.

Maybe you should have used square ports? I have a bigger cam on my ls7 427 and it's a ******* torque monster.

My experience is that most people massively over cam their engines. In the older muscle cars it was to make up for horrendous cylinder head design. Now, because heads have gotten so much better, especially noticing this in the LS3/L92 engines, they actually respond better to a smaller cam.

Considering the power band you are looking for, I think your original cam was way too big like you said and the second one may still be a little big in my opinion but should be a LOT better than what your current set-up is.

I didn't scan the thread very well but did you show cylinder head flow numbers?

For reference, back in 2003 I built and engine for the PHR Engine Masters Challenge, it was a 408 cube Olds engine with Bulldog Cylinder heads (now defunct...not getting into it). Leaking water into two cylinders we made just shy of 700 HP and never found out what it could have done on all 8. Cam profile was not much different than what you are currently looking at...Cylinder heads compared to the LS offerings were ****...to this day I still think we were too big on the cam. FUnny thing though...because of its design, that bitch laid right over at 6700 RPM (only had to spin it to 6500).

My suggestion, give someone who actually designs cams a call and talk about what you want. Every combo is different. My personal favs have been Lunati (formerly Ultradyne Harold) grinds. Not sure of all the voodoo involved (no pun intended) but those bastards make power and pull like freight trains.

Either way dude, your builds are very classy and well presented. You'll get there and when you do it is going to be fantastic. Best of luck!!!

Dave

these are my head flow numbers

Lift Intake Exhaust
0.100 69 55
0.200 146 122
0.300 237 199
0.400 294 250
0.500 336 277
0.550 348 284
0.600 353 290

Its crazy how opinions vary so much. I'm being told by some people my new cam choice is too small, and by most people its too big. I ran a 238/240 in my stock LS2 and the cam was said to be too big by most for daily driving but I loved it. Considering the size of my engine, I think this cam will be perfect for my driving style and will give me what im looking for (like usable braking vacuum) When I originally stated what I wanted my biggest point was DAILY DRIVER..(means having brakes)..89kpa at idle (97at WOT) is unacceptable for a street car...not to mention the car sucks under 4k.

Not really seeing ur new cam specs other than what u posted, I think ur going to be very happy with the new cam. As part of the EMC we had to have at leat 12 inches of vacuum at idle and power band was 2500-6500.

In for results!

I've seen people make the same and/or more power by switching to a smaller cam
