Default Need Help Guys!!

alright so i am going to start building a sn95 but want to do a conversion. Should i go with an LS1 or like an LS2 or LS3? i am going to do a mild build on the motor and then maybe a turbo. If so what turbo should i go with and also what tranny should i go with depending on the engine i use. With the LS1 i see/hear alot of people going with a T56 or a 4l80 tranny. i do not want to sink a fortune into the car but i want it into the low 10s or high 9's. so please shoot me anything you think will help

6.0 is nice because the bore allows you to step up to L92 heads later on if you choose. The 5.7 has a smaller bore and limits head selection. Also, 5.7s are aluminum block while the 6.0 truck motors are iron. Strength of the block could be beneficial when throwing boost at it.

First of all whats your skill level and budget? If your going with a FI application then your going to need a lot more stuff then your average swap. Also tuning and pretty deep pockets. I say for the sake of budget do a 4.8 or 5.3 and throw boost at it till it goes. From what I've seen and many others have, those engines hold there own damn well with boost on em. I think your goal of tens will be attainable with a turbo 4.8 or 5.3. Also don't forget your going to need suspension and tires to get that thing down the track.

I have intermediate skills and can do the swap but isnt the 6.0 a long block? And yea i could do a 5.3 but only reason i said 6.0 is bc i found one for cheap. I havent really looked a 5.3s can i pick one up for cheap?

Long block and short block have nothing to do with actual length of the engine. Long block usually means that it's assembled with rotating assembly heads ect. Short blocks generally are not. 5.3s and 4.8s can be had dirt cheap around here. Like a couple hundred bucks, and they are boost friendly from the get go.

okay i think i am going to go with an 6.0L LS2. Is there any disadvantages over a 5.7 and is there any differences if it comes out of a truck vs a car? i mean i will pretty much being stripping it down to the block and redoing everything anyways.

Keep in mind that the LS2 was an all aluminum Gen IV Engine (cam sensor on the front and knock sensors on the side of the block). It was available in from 2005 (Corvette) to 2007 (TBSS, Corvette, SSR, GTO) it could be either 24x or 58x depending on year and application. The 6.0 Iron block enginges are LQ4 or LQ9. Disadvantages are typically weight if you get an iron block LQ motor.

Iron block is stronger if that is what you are asking.

If you are set on a 6.0 why ask again about a 5.7. More displacement is always good. Spend your money on good turbo kit and blow up stock 4.8's for 300 bucks a piece. Because if you dont know what you are doing , you are going to dump all that money into that 6.0 and pop it just the same. Unless you have someone helping that knows whats going on.
