Official- Where did you get your engine/trans

I got my 2006 GTO LS2 & T56 with 7K miles, complete with harness, pedal and pcm it was a very complete pull out, I probably recouped about 3-4 hundred from extra stuff I didnt need and sold on Ebay, It was from Cleveland Pick a Part for $8000.00 shipped to Texas.
Now that may seem a little high by today's prices but it only had 7K miles on it and this was back in 2007 and prices have come down as these swaps have become more popular. In those days there wasn't as much information and aftermarkets parts availability as there is now. But I still see GTO LS2' & T56 combos in the 40-60K mile range going for between 6-7.5 thousand.

I bought my 2000 Corvette LS1 and 4L60E with the full engine and transmission harnesses, pcm, tac, pedal, maf sensor, trans cooler lines, power steering lines, all accessories still bolted on, exhaust manifolds still bolted on and the fuel rail covers. I got them from a local guy on craigslist for $4500. So far everything is very clean on it. Crosshatches on the cylinder walls still and no oil stained valve covers or oil pan. (Haven't started a build forum yet but will post pictures when I do.) I hope the motor is sound after the internals I installed since I never had a chance to hear it run and the guy bought the setup from a friend so he really didn't know much. I have plans on rebuilding the transmission at work so I will be going through that pretty in-depth.

I bought a complete car from copart.com and parted out the stuff I didn't need, gave some stuff to my dad to use on his LT1 swapped convertible, and used the motor, trans, gas tank, radiator and seats in my car. I would say after selling all the parts I have about 2k in the stuff I kept and gave to my dad. If I wanted to clear a little more money I could have sold the perfect ebony door panels and perfect ebony seats to recoup some more of the cost. I also gave the rear end and front disc brakes to my dad so there is some other costs I lost.
I was very happy with my co-part.com buying experience. I won the first car I bid on, but I doubt many people get that lucky. I really never thought I would win the first one. I did have to drive from Ohio to New York to pick the car up, but they have a delivery service available for a fee. I have a truck and trailer so it was easy for me to go and get it.

I guess I should have put more thought in my post. I did get my engine/trans from Andrew. No issues with him at all. Getting it delivered to small town U.S.A is sometimes a pain, took a week longer, but it got there with no damage and that's what was most important..

I would highly recommend looking around for a good junk yard. I searched on car-parts.com as well and found a couple junk yards that were well organized and had a multitude of 5.3L truck engines.
I ended up buying a complete 80k mile 04' 5.3L from this junk yard for $604 with tax, pulled and put on my trailer complete with accessories, wiring harness, and computer.

I also had lined up to buy a 4l80E transmission from them, but when we went to pull it that day they had lost it in inventory somehow. No problem the guy calls up a competing junk yard 15 miles away and asks him to sell me one of his 4L80E transmissions for the price he quoted me. Excellent service, everything was pulled and stored in a warehouse, very well organized for a "junk yard".

For the motor I used www.car-part.com. Don't use a zip code for a broader search.
Tranns I used Cleavand pick-a-part

I live in south central Pa and work in Baltimore Md. I got my engine off ebay for $450+$100 shipping from Bow Auto Recyclers in New Hampshire. Chris is their Internet sales guy and was a pleasure to deal with. I talked to him a couple times on the phone and he was more than helpful.
easy to deal with and the motor and trans work great.

Have you guys ever been asked to pay core chargers?
Out of all the dismantlers I been to locally, one place that seemed would be pretty nice to deal with wanted $2850 for a Lq9 with 96k and 4l60e with 63k. They wanted to charge me $50 core charge on the transmission and $200 core charge on the engine. Plus charged me extra $150 for all the accessories like altenator, starter, a/c, etc when all that crap is already still on the engine, dosen't make sense to charge me extra when its already on the motor and still in the vehicle. Yet they through in the harness and pedal for free. WTF! all for total $2850 out the door with tax.
So far they are the only ones that tried to pull core charge cost.

Ended up not buying a motor from those people, prices of 6.0L in my area have gotten crazy. Instead purchased a 5.3L from someone I knew that had it just laying in his garage. 40k miles from an 2004 avalanche when pulled- Tboned
I did however purchase a 4l60e from a 2007 silverado with 52k from those people since they had the best price around considering the mileage...even with BS core charge.

Bought my LS1/T56 ecu and harness out of a 02 camaro 17k miles(supposedly) in New Orleans after Katrina, found in classifieds, don't know if the motor was out of his car, or the car floated to his house, but there wasn't much water damage, just surface corrosion on the aluminum, for 2500 for motor and trans and 500 for ecu and harness couldn't say no.
