Default mild AT trans recommendations?

What automatic tranny would be good to go behind my friends 5.3 ls in his 67 camaro?
Can we get a 4 wheel drive tranny out of like a 2005 silverado and convert it to 2 will drive?
Or should we only look for 2 wheel drive trannys?
There is a 4l60 on craigslist out of a 1995 silverado 2 wheel drive for only 400 would that be a good candidate?

I sure appreciate any info guys I'm a T56 user.

Shoot for a 4L80E but a 4L60E will be fine. Just depends on what you can get for cheaper, like i personally have a LQ4 and locally found a 4L80E with 90kMiles (with Torque Converter) for only $350 - so far it works like a champ.

Is there any difference between the 4l60 and a 4l60e.
or are people just leaving the e off?
Will a 4l60 that was behind a 1995 lt 1 have communication issues with our lsx 411 ecu ?

In other words is there any disadvantage from a tranny that is older from the 90s?

What about the 4 wheel drive trannies can we use them in a 2 wheel drive camaro, or is it too big a hassle to modify a 4 wheel drive tranny to 2 wheel drive??

I think a 4l60 is just a 7004r refresh, the 4l60e is the later electronic version (I think, could be wrong). Pretty sure you'd want an e version from an LS vehicle, and the simplest thing to do is just buy a 2wd in the first place, as they are neither scarce nor expensive.

Actually the 4l60 was a non electric trans used in the late 80's. GM actually dropped the "e" designator sometime in the mid 2000's as all trans are now electric anyway so some guys just leave it off now.

Just look for an LS 4l60/65e trans mission. Get a 2WD as that why you don't have to buy the output shaft and tear it all apart.

Thanks Bo that is exactly the info I needed. So that 2wd 4l60 out of the 1995 silverado 1500 would be a good choice?

No the 1995 will be a poor choice. First the converter is wrong. Its a one piece bellhouse and lacks the bolt hole at the top. Among other things.

Car-part.com Each 99-2007 1500 Silverado 2wd.

Easy way to tell a 4L60 from a 700R4 is the latter has a 4-pin plug, while the former has a 5-pin plug. I agree with what is said above, try to find a later transmission with the newer bellhousing.
