Default LS1 into 89 Blazer

Hi all just wondering if anyone has done the conversion in prefferably an 87-91 blazer or a mid 80's 4x4 truck.

The main thing I'm really wondering about is the tranny can the 700r4 be made to mount to the ls1 style motor? Otherwise I have to take into consideration the tranny\transfer case.

I am leaning towards the LT1 because I am fairly familiar with them and it would be a relatively easy swap. I like the LS1 because this is my daily driver and the gas mileage and smoothness of the more is a BIG plus.

I'm still in the planning stages the TBI motor is running decent now but its getting up there in miles and 200hp\300tq and 12 mpg or whatever it is, is pretty pathetic

actually i think the 4l60e is a different transmission because the first year of the 4l60 was in 93 and it was not electronically controlled, that is why it was just a 4l60. but people are mating turbo 400's to the LS1 so you should be able to mate the 700r4 to it since it and turbo 400 are in the same family. some one correct me if i am wrong.

You know thats a good point about the 400. the 4L60 and 700r4 are basically the same thing. I had a 93 and went through 3 of them Ended up putting a T56 it it!

Thats how I know an LT1 is an easy swap.. I know the LS1 LT1 T56's are different and I thought it was because of the bell houseing and hydralics.. But your right is a 400 fits a 700r4 would fit too.....

Yeah I am in the finishing stages of swapping a 6.0/4l80e in my 91 fullsize. But I would definitely love to see someone else around here with a fullsize blazer. If I were you I would opt for the 4l80e, because they are incredibly strong and will take a beating. Plus you can just bolt it to your np241/np208 (whichever) because gm sells the adapters. Good luck, hope this helps.

I used the stock tranny mount. Since you are just changing the transmission, the new adapter still has the same bolt up pattern of the older adapter so I just used the stock one and it works great. But I did have to fabricate a set of motor mounts that would work, so I just fabbed em up out of 1/4" steel plate so they would work with the original frame mounts. And if you go ahead with the 6.0, then I could probably hook you up with most of the parts you will need for the swap. Well just ask away if you have anymore questions.
