Default ford t-5 behind a lsx

hello, im in the process of swapping a 6.0 lq4 in my 1980 volvo 242 which was 16 valve turbo with a ford t-5 cobra transmission with a performance rebuild. i want to keep it as i already have the crossmember and driveshaft ect all done. if it blows ill get a tko box so please dont slander the t5 swap idea. im really just wondering if anyones actually done it? i havent seen any real swaps of it. sorry im new to the fourm. thanks in advanced, brian

I don't think the Ford input will work. If you can put a GM input on your T5, it should be just like any other old style transmission. There is a thread on here somewhere that details the parts list for the older transmissions. I used an LS7 pilot and a Sachs 1050 flywheel with some old truck bellhousing to put a TKO600 on my 5.3.

Hmm but quicktime sells a bell for the ford t5 specifically.. One would think the bell would be made shorter to accomodate the shorter ford shaft... Im sure the quick time unit is as its ment for this. I guess what im asking is, has anyone actually done this swap? Ever? Ive google
searched and found all the parts I need to do it. But never any pictures of installs ect.

The ford T5 input shaft is longer. So an adapter bell housing will work or a 1/2" adapter plate between the bell and trans. Problem with the LS mating is the pilot bearing. The ford input has a larger diameter. Not sure if anyone makes an adapet pilot bearing/bushing, but you could have one machined.
Another possibility is swapping the input shaft fot a V8 GM one. The 2.95 1st gears inputs are supposed to be interchangable. A 4.3 Astro Van bell is drilled/machined for both Ford and GM trans bolt patterns.

Watching! Let me know if you find a decent bell for a decent price. I'm not gonna pay $750 for a freakin' bellhousing. I just lost out on a McLeod 8630 on E-Bay, it went for $127.50. LS motors have two different pilot registers in the crank and a bronze bushed pilot can easily be honed. A true bearing would be something you'd have to search for...

use a quicktime rm-6037 bellhousing, a 96-04 clutch fork, and modern driveline sells a brass pilot bearing. can also us a 99 up mustang clutch disk with the ls pressure plate. and a reg throwout bearing.

Damn I deleted all the links off my computer. But as I remember it you need a big block Chevy bellhousing, ls7 pilot bushing, 1/2 spacer to fit between trans and bell, and find a hydro throw out bearing. I'll see if I can dig up the parts list.

As long as he's not beating the snot out of it, or if he builds it with g-force parts. I've seen t-5s last, longer with less traction.

I have both sitting at my shop, I'll see if the ford t5 will at least fit the bb bell. If it does a little drill amd tap can fix the "not fitting" problem.

a 96-04 clutch fork -> ford or chevy? part number?

99 up mustang clutch disk -> was yours 10 spline or 26?

ls pressure plate -> which one and what flywheel should be used?

reg throwout bearing -> ford or chevy? part number?

Thanks for posting this info by the way. I plan to go your route if I can find all of the right parts. Bell housing is on the way I figured it would be about impossible to find used so I got summit to match race-mart.com 's price and bought a new one.
