Default Help....blowing coolant out of radiator

Just fired new engine up and while I was letting it run I had the cap off to add water if needed and it started pushing water out of the neck. I had filled it up until I had water coming out of the coolant cross over tubes before I cranked it. Any ideas

Just a theory, but it sounds like its a head gasket issue. I had that problem on another one of my vehicles.

My oil looked fine to. I could see that my head gasket was failing in a certain spot.

Blown head gasket. I pressure tested the cooling system and it checked out fine. Few of my head bolts stretched. This was in a boosted vehicle though. The overflow bottle wasn't draining back into the radiator.

Did you run it until the stat opened?

Had this happen on a rebuild or three. It was trapped air in the system, and when the T-stat opened it burped spilling coolant everywhere. Little secret is to put a small hole or two in the T-stat for water to bypass before it opens.
The few times I had gaskets go, the bubbles where a lot smaller and not a big puke...more like boiling water in a pot.

What Doug Said^^^^ Sounds like it needs to burp. Sometimes if you jack up the frontend a good foot off the ground it helps it burp quicker.

Thanks guys. I jacked the front end up and filled thru the top radiator hose until I had water coming out of the cross over pipe. Hooked up the upper hose, topped off the radiator and it was fine. Never got over 190 with the fans on. Thanks
