67-72 chevy shortbed. Something like this will hold value better than pretty much all the 80's and 90's cars.

I would personally say an 80s model chevy truck. My first vehicle to drive in high school was an 83 c10, lowered on nice wheels, nice paint, good stereo, and a very nice motor lol

It was awesome because camaros, mustangs, and other muscle cars were everywhere but i was the only one with a truck like that. And it would outrun most average kids at my high school lol. But if youre set on a car, i would definitely build a fox.

I would have to say something like an 87 Monte Carlo SS. Solid cars for safety and have a classic/muscular look to them to appeal to his fellow classmates. I would like have one myself. The drivetrain should easily handle the 4.8 so money will be saved there. It would just be a cool project and if done right will be very unique. Great first car.
Myyyyyy 2nd pick would be a 240sx but those wouldnt be as safe. Great aftermarket support and lightweight.
The sky is the limit.

3rd Gen hands down. If you find one with no motor/tranny they can be had for less than 500 bucks. They are a great platform for ls swaps, and can be made to handle REALLY well. With the cheap big brake upgrades out there they will stop on a dime too. Not that im biased or anything though....

i think i found the car i'm going to keep an eye out but i think a 70's celica liftback will be the car for us. just look how happy that one looks sitting next to the vengeance camaro which by the way is kind of my inspiration for my camaro.

^ Or a 740 or 960, but the 240 would be the easiest to work on since it has less electronic crap on it. Kid might not like that his history teacher drives the same car though.
