Default Quick question about oiling a stored motor

I've got an '04 LS1 that's been sitting in my car for a couple of years. I want to dump some oil down the cylinders and turn the crank over before winter again.

Do I just squirt 1/4 a quart down each plug hole and crank her over?

WOW, 1/2 a quart?

Depends on where each piston is!

Some must be near top-dead-center...

I think even 1/4qt is too much. unless you let sit there for a week or so, so the piston soaks all around the rings then somehow get it out. I wouldn't start it with 1/4qt over each piston.

I would have used Marval Oil.. I would let that soak for a few days, it should soak down past the rings. They squirt maybe a table spoon of motor oil and then hand turn it over a few times.. then try starting it up.

If you have to much oil, you could hydro lock the engine. If you still have that much oil in there, I would take the spark plug out and crank it over, hoping the compression would spit out the excessive oil through the plug holes.

Why not just start it and let it run?

You could pull the plugs and squirt a teaspoon or so of marvel mystery oil into each cylinder.

Best option would just be pulling the plugs and cranking it over for 10 seconds at a time until you read oil pressure. That will lube everything up. Oil collects water when sitting, so changing out the oil before you do that isn't a bad option.

Thanks guys, I will buy some Marvel.

There is no intake, starter or wiring harness yet so I can't fire it up.
