04 Envoy EXT 4X4 5.3 - not suitable for swapping?
Hi, total newb as far as LS's, know big blocks and small blocks very well. Anyway, want to find a 5.3 for a 52 Chevy I'm building. Like to find an L33, but kind of scarce. Found a rolled 04 Envoy EXT 4X4, low miles, with a 5.3, locally, priced very reasonable. I thought I remembered this being an aluminium block 5.3, so called on it. Guy answered, asked what year vehicle I had. Told him I wanted it to swap into an older vehicle. "Won't work, theres no place to put an oil dipstick, the pan is the transfer case, no way to put a dip stick in it. The heads are different too." Seemed like a real nice guy, wanted to help, told me I need a truck motor. Does he know what he's talking about? Is this engine not suitable for a conversion? I figure I'm going to need to swap in an F body pan or something anyway, so wasn't worried about the pan. If it will work, any others "Gotcha's", or tips I should know? Any and all advice greatly appreciated.
TIA, Jim

Yes it will work and you need a different pan for your car anyway and they make one to fit older cars right from GM.Texas Speed has the GM Muscle car oil pan kit for $160
