Default Need help identifiying a squealing

LS2
Keisler Hydraulic Clutch Setup.
Stock Corvette clutch, pressure plate and Flywheel
Tremec TKO500

I am getting a high pitched squeal from the bottom end of the engine or the transmission.

It is not the pulley drive. I took both belts off and the squealing is still present.

I am thinking a pilot bushing. But since the entire combo is new I just wanted to see if anyone else has run into this issue.

Thanks

Sometimes when the engine first starts up it doesn't squeal. The squeal goes away above 1500 RPM.
It squeals when in gear moving and in neutral stopped. Doesn't matter if the clutch pedal is depressed or not.

Sometimes is will stop and start up for no reason. Doesn't seem like it is related to any certain system.

That will be a tough one to troubleshoot over the internet. I have had water pump and alternator bearings go out that sounded just like you describe.

Sometimes it helps to get a different set of ears and see what they think.

By the way, did you check the run out on the Kiesler bell before putting in the trans? The one they sold me for my LS2 was off by over 30 thou.

Yes, did the run out and had to get offset dowlpins. I would say for certain it is the pilot bearing or hydraulic throwout bearing.

It is not an accessory because the serpentine and AC belts were removed to verify this.

Thank you for your input.

Try pulling the pcv valve out while it is making the noise. If it stops, you found your problem.

I pulled the hose that goes to the PVC port on the bottom of the manifold and it has seemed to go away. What is the issue here?

I will go drive it tomorrow to confirm.

What do I do to fix this?

I am going to post how to properly connect vacuum lines.
Here is how I did mine, wrong or right this is what I did.

PVC port lower passenger side of intake to passeger side right behind throttle Body

Vacuum port on Drivers side Rear Throttle Body to passenger side valve cover.

Driver side rear valve cover port capped.

Rear of intake capped except for power brake booster.

If this is the issue I owe you like 10 cases of beer because it may have saved me many hours of trouble shooting.

Thank you

I almost pulled my trans because of a mistake that I made routing the pcv lines

Ben,

Have you cut open the oil filter yet? Sounds like a bearing is gone...

No. I plan on cutting open the filter and having an oil analysis done. But really don't think either matter since the engine is coming out either way.

Cut open the filter and it is clean.

There is a little metal but very fine and 25% less than you would find on your standard oil plug magnet.

I am going to pull the flywheel and starter and make sure there isn't something hitting.

I have talked with many shops, Texas Speed, several local engine builders, engine machine shop. Several mechanics and every lead I can find and no one has had this issue. Everyone thinks this isn't a standard, main/rod/cam bearing squeal. I suppose I will have to put the engine and see what is going on.

What was your finding on the PCV valve?

I was starting to think it was my transmission too until I saw this! Now, how did you change your PCV system to make it go away?

I've got the stock PCV valve going to it's stock location on the truck manifold. Because I had a PCV hose on the passenger side valve cover, I teed it into the stock line. Should I have just capped it off?

Interesting! I have (old school) breathers on each valve cover, no PCV at all and no noises. These motors are very well sealed. I will admit this, before the breathers were installed, on initial fire-up the rear main seal started puking oil. Since the engine had sat several years, I ASSumed the seal had dried out. I ended up dropping the trans and replacing it for nothing, cause the new seal leaked until after installing the breathers...

I capped the PS side and put the DS back like it was. Haven't driven far but the squealing is gone.

Resurrecting this old thread. Did the OP or anyone else ever find a good way to route the pVC hoses? My Passenger side Valve cover just has a breather on it.
