Default Need some advice. Defective LS2, need engine selection help.

I want to stay with a 24x reluctor engine.

GM reman LS2 long block $4300 local
Jasper reman $4750
Local rebuilt if block is still good. $?
I have been looking at Thompsons motorsports for a possible rebuild or replacement engine.

What would you do?

This is a street car only. Just for fun and crusing. Don't want to wild just peppy and that is why I choose the LS2 in the first place.

THanks

Any reason you dont want to buy a crate LS6? I know they dont make them anymore but people have new old stock. Would be cheaper than a reman'd LS2 long block.

Ben,

Guess you found the problem! Any reason why you wouldn't keep your old heads? You could get a new forged & balanced shortblock from TSP or any of the other vendors here for under $4k...

I still have not pinpointed the exact cause for the squeal and it really is annoying me. Did cut open the filter and found almost no metal. There was a little but not a significant amount.

I have no reason not to use the 243 LS2 heads. Once I take the engine apart we will see if I can identify the issue.

I am leaning towards buying a GM engine or a Thompson motorsports 6.0 with a cast iron block.

The benefit of the GM crate is then I don't need a dyno tune but I will sacrifice some added power that I was hoping to get.

I want a nice street/daily drive car, not a drag car.

Maybe it's just me but I can't even imagine paying $4300 for a stock long block, you can get an entire running 6.0 for less than $1500 or that $4500 buys a nicely built one from tsp or similar.
