Default LT1/Auto in a 94 Silverado???

Anyone ever done this before? My dad just bought a LT1 out a 96 Z28 with only 1700 original miles on it!! The engine was origanlly was his buddies, who was going to put it in his street rod, but eventually sold the engine to my dad. Anyone have some kind of writeup or any conversion I have to do in order for this to work?

Thanks,
Robbie

Well I am pretty sure when I say that your swap will be pretty straight forward. If your taking out the old 350, then the lt1 has the same motor mount configuration so it will bolt right up, and if you have a 4l60e transmission, then you can reuse that also instead of getting a whole new tranny. The only thing you will really have to do is get a stand-alone harness and computer for the engine from somewhere like speartech or lt1350.com or whatever. The stand-alone harness and computer will only control the function of the engine, while everything else will still be controlled by the stock computer. Overall I think your swap will be very straight forward and fairly simple, the only thing I would worry about is if the accesories contact the frame. And if that is the case, then there are ways around that. Hope this helps

the truck has a 700R4 in it. Do you think the transmission crossmember will work with the 4L60E? That's the only thing that I think will be a problem.
thanks for the input man.

You might have to change the tailshaft housing on the 4l60e to one without a torque are mount. Lke one out of a truck with a 4l60e.

I have built 2 of those body style trucks with LT1's. It is a straightforward swap with the only prob being having to notch the frame to clear the f body a/c. One my 2nd one I used Vette accessories and no frame notching was invloved. Yes the crossmember will work. The pass side motor mount will not work on that 96 block without some fabrication. There are several options as far as electronics just a matter of opinion there.

Now, having had experience in this, and still owning one of the trucks (my daily driver, and it now has a 5.3) I am going to advise you to sell that LT1 and buy 5.3, 6.0 or LS1. There is absolutely no comparison-the 5.3 in my truck right now is smoother, faster and all around better than the LT ever was. the gas mileage is about the same, though. I went through 4 opticraps on that LT1 and 2 on the other. There is a reason that GM only made the LT1 a few years......just my opinion. If you have any other questions about the swap feel free to ask I will try to help if you insist on going with the LT1.
