The trinary switch is there to operate the fans independently of the ecu.
It sounds like yours is set up for the older GM style AC request, not the VA setup.
Although you could potentially wire 12V to the trinary switch, then to your ecu AC request wire. Not sure how the ecu would interpret that. Do you know if high speed fans come on any time 12V is applied to that wire?

I have the same question. MY VA is a complete system, the PCM is a 02 LS1. I have been told that you can connect the AC request from the PCM straight to the AC compressor black wire that connects to the blue wire of the VA and be all set. I have dual fan setup as well and I am at a loss with section. My other answer to my question came from a very reputable vendor and mentioned that not to use that wire. To just install the VA as is and start driving.
Anyone have any pics of the trinary switch with the wires labeled?

Post 3 in this thread has a link to VA trinary wiring diagram.
The trinary can basically replace the AC hi fan signal.
If you're running dual fans wire both relays to the ECU fan control outputs (ground trigger for relay). In addition, use the trinary switch to ground the high temp/speed fan relay(s).
I've been running that way for years, works great.
