fuel level gauge question

Default fuel level gauge question

since I havent been in the forum long enough to post where I want to I will post here, I am converting my 70 c10 to a 5.3, while im doing this i am also putting a Fbody fuel tank under my truck bed, my question is what are the ohm readings that the sending unit operate on? I need to know this because I need to know if I am going to need to get an aftermarket gauge or not

99 F Body uses a 33 ohms empty and a 270 ohms full unit. Most aftermarket gauges have this option available. Your factory gauge is setup at 0- 90 ohms.

If you wired the gas gauge through the PCM you can program the output of the PCM to work with your 0-90ohm gauge.

Follow the wiring diagrams. All LS cars use the PCM to control the gauge along with evap, etc. The 98 Camaros, Express Vans, and I believe some trucks have a fuel gauge wiring to the dash. If it does not you need to do the fuel segment swap to an express van or get somebody to turn it on in the software and run the output from the PCM to the gauge. From there it is just a matter matching the sending unit to the gauge. This works for any combination of sending unit and fuel gauge. Let me know what PCM you plan on using and I can point you in the right direction.

Aren't the gauges run on a serial data line? There's wires going into the PCM, but there isn't a wire coming out of the PCM that is dedicated to the fuel gauge, so what do you hook the gauge up yo?

Bout to go through this as well. But with a Ls Camro gauge and ecu that I need to mate to a fuel cell that has a sending unit that is a "gm" sending unit.

IIRC. you need to have the BCM to control the gauges... ?? not the PCM... but I could be wrong..

I think it was car craft or hot rod that took and installed a camaro gauge pod in a mustang swap. Not sure if they used the BCM, but I do not recall reading anything about that.

Some of the senders are wired directly to the gauge cluster others come over serial data wire. Cluster schematics are on our site under instructions tab for free download. Adding more every day. If you need something specifically, let us know.
