lq4 into BMW 1999 540i
Hey guys!
As the title states I am swapping a 6.0 lq4 out of a 03 silverado 2500 into my e39. Just rebuilt the motor in my 540 in April, but I got tired of the m62tu very quickly. not enough power, not cheap to make power... Basically things break alot and I'm tired of throwing hundreds at it. I would like to have the reliability of the gm and the cheap power of the gm, and I've always been a chevy person.
-lq4 with roughly 100,000 miles.
-modified gto oil pan
-f-body front drive assembly
-bmwman mounts (BEAUTIFUL welds and GREAT quality, thanks madison)
-98 camaro frankenstein manifolds/headers soon to be made after the transmission is bolted up and in place so I can get the proper angle on exhaust.
-truck injectors with performance products rails and truck throttle body on ls1 intake to avoid tune right now
-sticking with stock radiator
-hopefully getting dave from Markert Motor Works in lawrenceville, ga to wire this bad boy in due to my work schedule, heard very good things about him
sorry for the crappy write up but I just got off work and its 4:00 am in ga lol
And here's some pics for people like me who enjoy the pictures more than the talking :shifty
my money pit/pride and joy
lq4 front and back
out with the old
on the way to my dad's shop to complete most of the build
test fit
motor ready to paint
BAM!!!
in the car for the 15th time
f-body front drive assembly kit from hawksthirdgenparts.com (bought off craigslist and saved a good bit, but all was still brand new) :redspot
modified gto oil pan
oil pan clearance
manifold clearance
driver (can't see it that well)
passenger (ended up cutting the flange off of the passenger side as well)

Yeah the pop was the idea haha I like how the old school motors were a solid color and we were at the local parts store and my friend pointed it out so we coated it.
And yes the motor was definitely cleaned before we painted it.
Mods will be done after the swap is completed and all the kinks were worked out. They will be an ls3 intake with the ls3 throttle body and injectors, a mildly aggressive cam, new springs and some l92 or lsa heads. Haven't decided on the heads yet, any input?
And I'll be going with a t56 for the trans, if I can ever find one on craigslist that doesn't sell in 6 hours.
